Just recently, perhaps for a week or 10 days, International SMSs (texts) have not been reaching me here in Thailand, specifically originating from the UK.

I use AIS 12 Call, still on GSM (2G Nokia phone). I have tried sending a message from my UK SIM on roaming, and via Skype and they arrived fine. Messages from friends in the UK aren't arriving.

I just found the message centre number and it was missing the preceding '8' added some years ago...... well it had worked fine without this up until recently. Any other suggestions (please NOT buy an IPhone! :D).

Calling 1175 I was just on hold for ages!

Maybe your friends in the UK , don't have International roaming so how would they access AIS in Thailand ? and / or, are they using the correct International dialing code to get out of the UK and the correct (66) country code to get into Thailand

I know that my AT&T plan in the US does not have International SMS, I would have to pay extra to have that added to my US plan

They are simply sending me a SMS as they have been doing for years, International roaming, from their side is irrelevant. They are in the UK on a UK plan. Of course they are using the correct code, sometimes reply, sometimes from their contacts list, as I said, they have been doing it for years. Actually it is +66 I believe.

In the UK the plans may well not include international SIMs in the 'included allowance per month', but likely will simply charge extra at a fixed price for each. Perhaps terms and conditions have changed... that is what I am trying to determine. But for messages not to be transmitted without any indication is rather poor service. I think it may be an issue at the Thai AIS/2G end.

Whoa , you are the one having the problem not me

I just offered possible reasons for the problem. If you don't want to hear my guesses, then don't post in a public forum. And if you, do be gracious since I wasted my time to try and help you, something that I certainly will never do again

I've had this happen a few times over the years.

Most common was some glitch in the sms system that fixed itself after a week or more. Never did find out why and it happened a few times.

The other was the person sending the sms didn't have caller ID selected on their phone. Some countries/telephone companies insist on caller ID showing for sms's to be sent.

Thanks for the response. I do recall losing international SMS messages before. over a year ago.......perhaps it is just one of those periodic glitches.

Trusting modern technology may be my error.......:D

That is a problem with an SMS, unlike a person to person call, you are not actually sure the other person received it or saw it.
