A family member makes fine money in an MLM company that is opening in Thailand next year. No, I am not interested myself, but I am curious about something, after having lived in LOS for 7 years:

Does anyone have authoritative information on how foreigners can give meetings, etc., without a work permit? There are lots of foreign network marketing companies in Thailand, and recently asking around, Thais involved said Americans (and some French) have given meetings in Bangkok to thousands of Thais. I would have thought that would have attracted immigration's attention, yet I have heard of no arrests.

Someone from this company's headquarters claims that the Thai government, when granting permission to an MLM (Amway, Herbalife, among others) to open their business in Thailand, automatically grants permission for its (foreign) distributors to give meetings. I expressed serious doubt that this was accurate.

If you do not have an authoritative answer, please don't clog the replies with guesses.

You would need a work permit to do so.

Speakers that come to Thailand for a short stint need a temporary work permit for this purpose which can be obtained relatively easy within a day at the labour department.

But to run this as a foreigner legally, you need to have your company, employees and work permit.

Thanks much for the reply.

So, as opposed to waiting weeks for a WP for teaching, a day is all that's required for a WP for giving a meeting?

What paperwork needs to be provided?

this is correct, but the workpermit is valid only for the event it has been applied for.

It is meant for people not residing in Thailand who come here for meetings, seminars, performances etc. and go back after.
