Browser hacked by fake java...Poison Ivy?

Featured Replies

I'm running Windows XP and never had a problem till the other day. No matter whether I use Firefox or Chrome I get a multitude of Java pop ups telling mr I need to update it. The pop ups are viral and have infected my browsers to the point that keep going to a bogus Jave page. I have tried all the regular anti virus programmes such as Spybot, AVG and Prevex and all they find is low grade malware. Malwarebytes found even more. I am at a desperate stage of not really wanting to format the drive just yet, but it might come to that.

Any suggestions would be more that welcome.

Thanks MM

Now is maybe a good time to consider ditching XP. It's got more holes in it than a swiss cheese, and they're never going to get fixed.

Agreed. It's best to reformat your drive and install Windows 8.1 or maybe the Windows 10 preview. I'm not sure whether the preview version will be upgradable to the RTM version. It's best to confirm this before you install.

Don't install the preview unless you don't mind sharing everything you type with Microsoft.
