BANGKOK: -- The Anti-Money Laundering Office (Amlo) has promised to seize the assets of all businesses found to be encroaching on forest reserves and public land.

"Relevant authorities won't just bring down their buildings, but Amlo will also seize their assets, no matter what form these assets are in," Amlo secretary-general Seehanat Prayoonrat said yesterday.

He added that the Transactions Commission had ordered the seizure of more than 14 items including cars and cash in the bank accounts of the operator of Baan Talay Mok Resort in Prachin Buri's Thap Lan National Park.

Seehanat said the resort had been running from 1999 to 2012. He added that the commission was now considering ordering the seizure of assets belonging to those encroaching on Phuket's Freedom Beach.

"Their assets are worth around Bt4 billion," he said. Seehanat also disclosed that Amlo had now seized the assets of two thieves who were found guilty of crimes they committed between 1996 and 2013. "The victims can come forward to claim their assets. But if they don't show up within 90 days, these assets will become state property," he said.

Are they talking about two different cases here? Are the seized assets of the resort owner separate from the two thieves assets? I assume that "the victims" are the people that the thieve stole from. These are assumptions because the way this article was written, there is no way know for sure.

Selective enforcement to perpetuate the status quo.... again. What about Goebbel's son (I mean Herr Suthep's son) who encroached at Ko Samui, is still encroaching, will encroach further, and will have encroached further way into the imperfect future?

This is sophistry, and is consolidating the haves and expelling the small-time unconnected have-nots.
