Going to Hong Kong after getting single entry visa.

Featured Replies

Need to go to Hong Kong from Laos after I obtain my ED visa and there is no direct flight. Most flights are from Laos to BKK then to Hong Kong. If I fly the route from Laos-bkk-HK will they count that as an entry?

Thank you

Unless it is a connecting flight that allows you to stay in transit you will have to use your visa for entry.

If you have to use the visa you could get re-entry permit to keep your 90 day entry valid when your return. There are re-entry permit desks at both airports in Bangkok open 24 hours a day.

Yes it would be a connecting flight with a 3 hour layover. But if they did use the visa for some reason I could get a re-entry permit right at the airport? How does that work?

So the re-entry permit would keep my Visa valid right? Can I get a re-entry permit instead of going to my local immigration office and getting a multi entry stamp (for 90 days). ?

You apply for the re-entry permit and pay 1000 baht (+200 baht service fee at BKK).

Then when return you put the re-entry permit number on the arrival card instead of a visa number. They will then stamp you in to the date that you got when you entered using your visa. That means you would still have an entry that you can extend at immigration.

Awesome. Thank you. I never knew that existed. Probably a lot faster than going through my local immigration. Do I need to bring anything special besides my passport and money?

Just your passport and the fee at Suv. They take a photo, do the form and make copies that the 200 baht service charge is for.

"They"....as in Thailand...will not use the visa. It will only be used if you go through immigration to enter Thailand. If you stay in the airport for your connecting flight, it won't be used because you are not going through immigration.

You need to look at my first post that I was editing while it was quoted to add If in front of you.

Just for my future reference, does that apply for DM also?

Thanks. It's been a long time since I've traveled to multiple countries. I remember going through HK security or something on the way to the States but I didn't remember if we were going through immigration or not.

I don't think they charge the 200 baht fee. But they do have the ability to do the photo and copies but may charge for those separately.
