Thailand absent from Tour de France 2016 announcement

BANGKOK: -- The 2016 edition of the Tour de France will start in the Manche department in Normandy, organisers ASO said Monday, but apparently will skip Thailand entirely.

Nearly two months after tourism officials declared "Tour de France to be held in Thailand next year" before backpedaling that claim to 2016, the kingdom did not seem to be mentioned in Monday's announcement.

It will be the first time in Tour history that it will start in the Manche department, most famous for its hill-top island abbey Mont Saint-Michel.

Manche, named after the French term for the English Channel that separates the country from Britain, has played host to a Tour stage 23 times since 2011, most recently in 2013 when an individual time-trial ended at Mont Saint-Michel.

The F1 race in Thailand next year is still to proceed right?

TBF, having the F1 which travels around the globe is probably a distinct possibility in the coming years should Red Bull continue to have participate and have a measure of success.

Not sure what the high society types from around the world will make of the facilities, F&B, accommodation provision etc in Buriram though.

Not to mention health care provision for drivers.

Now perhaps it was Norman Tebbit advising the Thai authorities as to their tactics at the time they made the statement concerning the ''Tour-De -France.''

When asked if Thailand's authorities should get on their bikes to run the Tour-De -France Lord Tebbit, 79, said: “Yes. People do it in France so why not do it here in Thailand?

They are more than willing to do it than the French you know.whistling.gif

That's a shame. I was really looking forward to seeing Vanessa Mae compete for the yellow jersey.

I'm sure that why Thailand failed. All jerseys had to be of the same neutral colour and no teams were allowed.

The leader, however, would be allowed to wear camouflage green and brown and up to 20 copied gold medals pinned to his jacket

Shock, Horror and total disbelief.

I was convinced Thailand was going to getting their share, seeing as they are the hub of everything fantastic.

Do you think it is starting to sink in yet that Thailand is nothing more than a crazy backpacker drug fuelled beach party destination and sex industry?

At least now we know, why you are here!!coffee1.gif

Next year Bangkok will host the New York Marathon, the Melbourne Coup (sorry cup), the Daytona (500), and following Vanessa Mae's courageous efforts Thailand will submit a bid to host the 2022 winter Olympics. Is there no limit to the vision of Thailand's Tourist Authority?

Quote from OP "Manche, named after the French term for the English Channel that separates the country from Britain, has played host to a Tour stage 23 times since 2011, most recently in 2013 when an individual time-trial ended at Mont Saint-Michel."

! Only 3 years have gone by since 2011 and yet Manche has hosted TDF 23 times? WOW!!! Impressive!!! I wonder if the TDF organizers will be invited for a meeting at a certain Camp?

If a certain member of the Red Bull family is involved, it's not the drivers that need health care provision................................................coffee1.gif
