(Firstly, mods...I posted this in the golf and Pattaya forums as well)

In the holiday resorts of Portugal and Spain, there are often guys found on the 1st tee with a digital camera...

When you've finished your round you can purchase a photo of your "effort" off the 1st and maybe a group photo..

They make nice momentoes of a holiday/course...And seem to be a nice earner for the snapper... :o

I just wondered have any TV members seen something similar in Thailand, and do you think it would work as a business idea...?

Many thanks for your views

I have never seen this in Thailand, nor anywhere else for that matter, but then again, i dont spend a lot of time at the golf course!!

As a business idea, im not too sure. First of all, you need to be a hel_l of a salesperson to sell a decent quantity of these kind of memontos. Some people actively dont like having their photo taken without their consent (if you wanna be the guy shooting them regardless at the start of their round, and then trying to flog them the results as they arrive back at the clubhouse.)

Apart from that, Photography is a restricted activity for foreigners. Granted, there are a few pros plying their trade here in Bangkok, but the legality of their operation itself is questionable, even though the quality of their work is great.

Thanks for the comment...However, there must be a way around the "restricted activity" for photographers... as I know there's a member of this board who's a photographer with a WP...

And I wasn't necessarily going to do it myself... :o

It's just when I've seen it in other countries, tourist areas especially, most people don't mind forking out for the pics...They're in "holiday mood" and therefore don't mind spending money...

And the demographics of golfers means they tend to be from the wealthier sections of society... :D

Anymore views much appreciated

I have only seen done at tournaments/outings with the hosts hiring the photographers and then just giving the pictures away as a memento of the occasion.

It seems a neat idea but not sure how well the financial aspects would work out in terms of number of photos taken/sold.

Dan

Having spent 15 years photographing all sorts of events like balls, and special occasions, the economics go a little like this;

You get to the event and photograph everyone, you print everything that is remotely salable and you set up to sell at the end of the event (same night). You work hard and will sell to aproximately 1/3 of the people. This seems to hold true from the $200+ per head dinner to the end of season piss-up for the football teams. If you rely on orders the % of sales drops to 10-15%. Hot selling works.

You price your photo to the event and the commision you have to pay to get the event. I worked on 25% material cost, 30-40% for the sales and photography staff, 10% commision to the organiser.

Golf days can be good because the organiser or a sponsor wants everyone to have a photo to remember the day. The balance is a little different, but the $ at end of the day is there.
