I have seen a few threads about the local people helping foreigners and thought it about time we turned that around. There must be a lot of TV members who, at one time or another, have come to the aid of a Thai.

Here's one to start,

This happened a few months ago, my wife was selling clothes at a market and as usual, after helping her to set up, I was faced with a two hour wait. I took a walk to the main road (Lam Lukka) and stood in the middle of the footbridge watching the six lanes of traffic racing by. Then I noticed a frail old woman below standing on the thin grassed central reservation trying to cross. How she'd made it to the middle was beyond me as it wasn't yet rush hour so the cars were moving quickly.

After observing for a few minutes it became clear to me that she would never get the gap in traffic that she would need to cross so I ventured down to offer some assistance. I managed to get to her quite easily, being agile enough to move at speed when necessary.

She thanked me and I took her hand, the other arm I raised to halt the speeding cars as I slowly took her across the road. My duty done, I was about to leave her when she asked me what I was doing there. I mentioned my wife's stall and she immediately instructed me to take her there. She struck up a conversation with my other half, adding that I was indeed a kind man and then proceeded to buy four dresses. I pointed out that these clothes were for young girls but she smiled saying she had many friends who would wear them.

I then enquired where she was going next and she explained she was only here to buy food and then she would return to her house on the other side of the road. I pointed out the footbridge and suggested she take that route back, to which she replied she cannot climb steps. Fair comment so I told her to come and see me when she was done with her shopping and I duly saw her back across the busy street.

Upon arrival at the other side, she took both my hands and thanked me profusely, adding that I would receive much merit for my actions.

I'd be interested to hear about other members who have helped Thai people in some way.

oh boy, do you want a medal? I help people all the time and rarely get any acknowledgement for it. I am thinking especially about driving, one time I ran after a lady that had dropped her keys, hardly a glance

I am not posting to receive praise, merely to start a thread that shows how compassionate we can be.

Over the lat seven years, I have held the door open, waiting patiently, for thousands of Thais to pass through.

Eight said thank you, the others got in line before me.

I was helping Thai's for a few years by shouting at them, "Kha Tang", warning them about their motorbike side stands still being down.

Then one day a friendly Thai told me, after i shouted it at a Thai lady, that i've got the tones all wrong....

I was shouting at her and all them before, to open/spread their legs!!facepalm.gif

Hope you weren't in Pattaya!!

Hadn't discovered Chonburi at that time, but my mispronunciation helped me when i did visit whistling.gif

I had learned to keep my mouth shut when trying to help thai's and just held their hand like geronimo wink.png

I'd assume in most of our home countries we expect the government to take care of the poor, needy and elderly. Thailand appears to be able to borrow enough for High speed railways and a large standing Amy. While I'll help out family , nephews, nieces ect I wouldn't go further than that
