Thailand's place drops in World Giving Index

BANGKOK: -- Thailand is ranked 21st in the World Giving Index which measures charitable giving behaviours among countries.

During 2009 to 2013, Thailand was ranked 13th. In terms of donation, Thailand is ranked 3rd, following only Myanmar and Malta, thanks to the high participation rate of people. However, by the number of donors, Thailand is ranked 5th, after India, the United States, China and Indonesia.

The annual index by Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) is calculated by simply averaging responses to three central questions. The respondent has to answer whether any money has been donated to a charity, any voluntary work has been contributed to an organisation, and whether any help has been provided to a stranger, all in the past month.

The CAF World Giving Index 2014 showed that 2.3 billion people around the world helped a stranger, 1.4 billion donated money and 1 billion volunteered their time for charitable causes.

That's pretty good considering we're still considered a third world country.

I bet it ranks high on the charity taking index, even higher on the personal taking, I don't give a stuff about anyone but myself index.

Well, that are some scientific statistics w00t.gif

Where does Thailand rank in philanthropy offered by the very wealthy? Never hear any reports of endowments by the big families. Maybe they like to be anonymous or are they just stingy?

Based on the recent Nations news story giving the results of recent survey on the most corrupt govt agencies with land offices, police stations, and customs offices being rank 1, 2, 3, respectively, followed by government schools I can just see the three questions possibly asked.

1. Have you recently gave a donation to the land office? Yes

2. Have you recently gave a donation to the BIB? Yes

3. Have you recently gave a donation to the customs office? Yes

Actually Burma ranked #1 and America was #2.

And America ranked #1 in Friendliness to Strangers.

Is anyone that's been to England and Europe surprised, 5555?

Cold people...

I always get a kick out of guys like this. Like they think they're actually Thai?

It includes the giving of alms to monks which is the main donation of almost all Thais and also the reason that Burma is at the top of the giving list.

When did monkeys give anything. Even the rich ones here still lives up in the trees.

There should be a fourth question:

Are you from a country where chronic, bald-faced lies are acceptable?

They are at the bottom.

The very top.

Flawed survey. Most people would answer "yes" to these questions.

Even this has a catch as it's only to make merit and set things up favourably for the next life.

Who is 'cold people', Mexican Farang? The Brits are one of the biggest givers. Just look at how much goes to India every year and to the tsunami (per head) as an example. But lemme guess, you've been to London and seen the faces of the people on the Tube, so know it all right! Pfft. By the by, I did hear the Mexicans are the biggest takers. laugh.png They might not be 'cold' people, but certainly hot-headed and will put you in the ground the quickest. Thais can't hold a candle to them. cheesy.gif

........giving what............to whom..........when..............???
