Thai parliament sets Yingluck impeachment date

BANGKOK (AFP) - Thailand's military-stacked legislature pushed ahead Friday with plans to impeach ousted former Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra in what analysts say is an attempt to neuter her family's influence in politics for good.

Phuket: Uber taxi service ‘is illegal’ – Thai Transport Dept

Uber advertises its rates for Phuket on its website. The government says the rates are illegally high.

BANGKOK: The Uber phone app, which can be used to summon a taxi, and which was launched in Phuket just days ago, has been declared illegal by the Department of Land Transport (DLT).

Phuket alcohol sales on Thai December holidays up in air

PHUKET: The island’s top cop could not yet confirm whether or not there would be a ban on alcohol sales during two upcoming holidays – Father’s Day on December 5 and Constitution Day on December 10.

Land Transport Dept bans Uber online taxi booking service

BANGKOK: -- The Land Transport Department has banned the Uber Taxi app and its online taxi booking service following a meeting with the Information and Communications Technology Ministry, the Business Development Department and the 11th Army Circle.

The Land Transport Department reasoned that drivers of Uber taxis used illegal taxis and their fares did not meet the standard while the drivers do not have public service driving license.

Online candle lighting for the King

BANGKOK: -- Siam Commercial Bank (SCB) invites the public to light online candles in celebration of His Majesty the King's 87th birthday anniversary on December 5, 2014.

The candles can be lit up online on the bank’s Facebook page: SCB Thailand or the website www.thaiblessking.com from now until December 31.

A list of people joining the event will be recorded in a CD, which will be further presented to His Majesty. Wishes for His Majesty are also available for downloading as Facebook cover photos.
