Man says police beat him after he declines to be witness in Koh Tao murder cases
by taweporn

KOH TAO: -- Thai man said he was beaten up by police after he turned down the police’ offer to give him reward money if he agreed to be a witness in the murder case of of the two British tourists in Thailand’s touristic island of Koh Tao, southern Surat Thani province, according to ASTV-Manager online.

The report says Pornprasit Sukdam, 37, on Tuesday complained with Kobchai Saowalak, kamnan of Koh Tao sub-district, and asked for protection.

Pornprasit said the police detained him on Monday 1.30pm. During the interrogation, the police investigators persuaded him to agree to pretend to have knowledge of the incident, Pornprasit said. The police allegedly offered him 700,000 baht (about 21,600 USD) reward and guaranteed that he has the witness status. However, since he was not involved with the crime and did not hold knowledge related to it, Pornprasit declined the police’s offer.

If I was the defense. I would check the direction the boys went back to their room. There must be a cctv shot showing them. From a seven eleven or somewhere. That would be all the proof they need.

Was thinking the same thing and would bet things like this may be some of the evidence the parents mentioned that we don't know about yet.

Meaning, that will be all the proof b2 need to prove their innocence.

Thanks StealthEnergizer for posting those news articles from early days in the investigation. People need to be reminded, in order to make a measured assessment of how the investigation has devolved. It was right after the taxi driver made his revelation (of payment-for-false-testimony), that the first head cop was replaced by the 2nd. Many concerned people thought the replacement head cop would be better, after seeing the blunderings of the initial head cop, but lo and hehold..... the replacement head cop was 10 times worse.

Right after the 2nd guy took the driver's seat, the B3 were arrested, and those who should have remained primes suspects, were dropped like a lead zeppelin. Then the amazingly quick DNA test results from B2 (one of the B dropped to become a side show), and the reenactment, which was as realistic as Mighty Mouse dropping Fat Boy on Hiroshima. Then Thai officialdom stepped back and hoped the frame-up would stick. It very obviously didn't, as there was uproar from every non-official quarter. However, the toothpaste was out of the tube, and Thai officialdom has had no choice but continue to goose-step down the muddy road they've created.

Actually the transfer happened before the 2nd. It happened on the day it was announced before the murders even took place... but I suspect you already know this as it has been pointed out numerous times that the transfers were carried out exactly at the time they were announced they would weeks before the murders.

Regardless of when the transfer was announced, no organisation would take the leader of

a case that was 85% complete and transfer him.

It would be postponed until complete. Thats logical

and normal practice, especially in such a high profile case.

My view is he was doing too good of a job.

Now his new command has the stigma of a man in charge who makes many mistakes and by definition

is not fit for purpose.

Wrong, again in my opinion, but that is the view some will have.

If thats the case why was this man put in charge of the investigation in the first place? As far as I know this general has never been heard of again, since his transfer, he has dropped off the face of the planet.

Have you heard of him doing anything or his name mentioned since this so called transfer? if it was so important?

As I remember all these transfers were all media speculation. But we would not want to disrupt your theories.

"and those who should have remained primes suspects, were dropped like a lead zeppelin"

How inconsiderate of them, to go after the people that the evidence pointed at instead of those you want to see punished because you just know they are guilty.

Oh, yes, I forgot, the evidence is all fake, part of a vast conspiracy to frame the two Burmese men.

After the first head cop was replaced by the 2nd .......Head cop ....Police Chief Somyot went ahead and assigned Police Maj Gen Suwat Jaengyodsuk, acting deputy Commander of the Metropolitan Police Bureau as chief investigator in the case to take over from the local officers.................... Maj gen Suwat travelled to Koh Tao with the Brits on the 25th Oct.............................Why would Chief Somyot do that when the case was supposedly closed???????

Is it now to the point where the conspiracy folks have run out of new conspiracy theories that they are now circling back trying to recycle old ones that were proven wrong? Is looking foolish promoting nonsense the first time not embarrassing enough?

Pray tell, which "old ones" were proven wrong?

Oh sorry, you meant proven "wrong" by the RTP which you take as gospel. My apologies...

I agree, its ridiculous really when they post old news stories that we've already discussed in hundreds of earlier posts. So many theories , so few answers.

Well lets see now, lest we forget.

Reposting some headlines is a good reminder just how ridiculous and amateur handling this case has been from the start until now and besides

Posters here didnt make up these headlines.

Posters here didnt make these claims and leads

Posters here wernt these sources the RTP mostly were.

Embarrassing ? I should say so but its not posters here that need to feel embarrassed, its the Thai authorities.

The nonsense has 99% of the time originated from RTP quips, statements and opinions.

The whole mess and debarcle is home grown 100% Thai, make no mistake about it.

Most of all its a reminder of just how unlikely in Thailand in the event of an incident that justice will be served or your family will get proper closure.

Must be frustrating for JTJ etc people arnt letting this go or swallowing the BS RTP lines and that for all the spamming its had very little impact on anyones views or disgust of the vast majority at the whole handling of the case.

People need reminding just how badly handled this case has been imo if only to slap it in the face of those who like to claim everything is just fine.... it isnt fine, never has been fine and probably never will be.

Yes, since our discussion(s) resolved any irregularities or questions and thus rendered them irrelevant, old news, of no import anymore.

Even if that's true, it's a soggy way of pretending the transfer was rote. A heinous crime takes place. A career police brass is in charge. Mere days after he's enmeshed in heading the investigation, he's pulled off the job. In the real world, things like that only happen if the lead investigator is doing an awful job, and even then, it's usually weeks/months later. He was replaced for several of the following reasons:

>>> The case was becoming news in major newspapers around the world

>>> Thai officials were deeply worried that, without a resolution, it would cause tourist revenue to tank. Every article in Thai newspapers about the case, at that time, devoted at least half their text to falling tourist numbers.

>>> Evidence was pointing to the Headman's people. The Headman's son and brother had been top suspects for over a week. Already, top brass had declared "Thais could not have done this" and anyone familiar with how things transpire in Thailand, could picture how the very rich headman would gladly spend any amount to protect his precious little boy.

>>> At least one regular person (taxi driver) had come forth and claimed cops had offered him Bt.300k to falsely testify, and when he refused, he was beat up by cops. Not very good publicity for Thai cops and their boss.

>>> The former head cop's underlings had let Sean go, without even getting a statement from him, even though he was very likely a witness, and possibly an accomplice to the crime.

As soon as the replacement took over, the following things happened in quick succession:

>>> The 3 Burmese were taken to a safe house, and admitted guilt under duress

>>> Two Burmese were DNA tested, and the results came forth very quickly. Quicker than any other DNA testing done prior, except for Mon's. And even more amazing, when just a week prior, Thai authorities claimed Thailand didn't have proper DNA testing capabilities.

>>> DNA from B2 matched that taken from the victim. It was a statement of fact, without a hint of doubt. A more realistic finding would have been worded something like: "It appears the DNA from the two Burmese matches the DNA found in/on the victim. To make sure, we're going to get tests done independently." No. It was a flat out: "The DNA matches. They're guilty of rape and murder."

>>> The reenactment, the following day.

If jdinasia and his buddies want to find the biggest conspiracy theory, that's it (articulated above), orchestrated by Thai authorities, with help from the Headman and some posters herein.

Back to topic. The boys must stop putting their faith in other people. Such as family of victims, Aug sang, amnesty. And find their own evidence to show they were not involved.

You seem to have lost all sense of anything worthwhile on this thread.

I always tolerated your blindness to fact as it was a good balance here but you have deteriorated to just insulting people.

A grip on reality?? Are you serious?

This police officer seemed to be doing a capable job given that it was the focus of attention of the international press and social media.

You have obviously never been in a position of real decision making, no business or organisation would pull a man in charge off

such an important role unless he was incompetent.

Promotions and transfers would be on the back burner until the case was resolved.

To say and believe otherwise shows how little comprehension you have and are just spouting RTP propoganda for whatever agenda you have.

With regret, I have put you on the iggy list, hopefully, one day you will wake up, you have good communication skills but lack ability to debate or think for yourself.

Sad.

According to the Asian Correspondent today, the statements from the two families of the victims were published via Twitter by the Thai Police.

Those police responsible for this action along with those that posted the images of the deceased should be sacked immediately. Their 'talents' would be better utilised in employment with gutter celebrity news magazines.

Hall said that “the release of statements could be seen as prejudicial to a fair trial for the accused”.

It remains to be seen what the strong evidence is against the two suspects, but it being held back and the trial moved forward has no doubt compromised the defense of the men. The statements from the two families of the victims, which were published via Twitter by the Thai police, may prove to be a set-back to the defense. So close to the trial, which is even closer now, the question should be asked if it was not in the interests of the prosecution to make the statements public. There is widespread support for the accused around the world, but in an official context it seems support for the two men has been circumscribed. While the public perception of the Thai police is unsurprisingly negative, the evidence the prosecution is allegedly sitting on, we might hope, will put an end to speculation one way or another.

Reality is when a head cop is a week or two in heading a serious crime case, he's not taken off the case unless he's been screwing up (or is seriously ill or a war breaks out). Your hoped-for explanation is soggy and shows how desperate the cop-echoers are to try and plug the 1,000 holes in their sinking ship.

As the families wanted to release these statements (apparently, as there has been no retraction I know of), then usually it

would not be so important as to who released them.

Given the BS statements about how everyone is happy with them, it does, in this instance, smack of desperate measures by the RTP.

Interesting that neither the Burmese, (read Mynamar if you wish), nor any UK authority has actually confirmed their happiness, which of course is being brought to the people via censorship.

describing the owner of Intouch and the manager of his brothers bar as one of the most decent people you have ever met, well, our German friend obviously does not get off the island very often does he?

I have a suspicion the Burmese workers have a different opinion of him, allegedly.

There's a lot we don't know yet about the prelude to the murders:

Miller and Witheridge were seen partying on the beach with a group of about six people the night they were murdered, the source said.

Witheridge, meanwhile, was dragged away from the first attack spot, said the same police officer.

The officer said Witheridge did manage to run for some distance but was hit repeatedly in the face with a hoe which suggested whoever attacked her could have held a personal grudge against her.

Agreed wholeheartedly but, the prosecution is against 2 guys and the RTP have not said they are looking for anyone

else in connection with the crime so, based purely on their prosecution case, that they have published, the scenario I state is what they will present, possibly.

There is much about that night, early morning, that we will never know, we cannot even determine the time of death as the bodies were prematurely frozen before autopsy, and therein lies another cp!, all we can all hope for is justice and a closure for the families.

Our posts sometimes appear to be cold and unfeeling but I am sure, like me, many other posters are constantly thinking about 2 bright and

intelligent young people torn from their futures by psychopaths and we are all merely look for justice.

Truth is the only constant in this World, thats all we ask for.
