I'm no internet warrior, but if I were in you shoes; OP; I'd be looking to use social media to get this management style some sort of publicity in the UK. Name and shame. Tesco have enough of a bad public image in the UK already and bringing this into the open would possibly get someone's attention at the top. Good luck whatever you do and don't let the ba***rds grind you down.

Since Tesco is seriously thinking about getting rid of their overseas operations, just like Carefour did, I doubt if any "social media" campaign or bad publicity would mean anything in the UK

Carrefour still operate within Europe (last time I was there) but they certainly got out of SEAsia in jig-time a few years ago.

Tesco-Lotus would not worried about a name-and-shame campaign -- this is how employment in S.E. Asia works. Either you get along with your boss or you find another job. ;) The OP's wife would do well to ask her Thai friends what to do, because advise from a farang is highly unlikely to be appropriate -- being based on western "norms" ;)

My wife loves her job and the money is good. She is still in her mid 20s so its a good lesson for her.

If she has done nothing wrong, then stand by her all the way.

As others have mentioned earlier in the thread, it is not only about the 50k bonus. If the regional manager wants her gone, then let her fire her with a valid reason. This will entitle your wife to severance pay, as well as stating a complaint if she is not happy with the reasons given for her dismissal.

It is obviously a time of stress for your wife, but if I were you, I would explain to her what is actually happening here and stand by her. Ultimately, the decision must be hers.

Good luck, the labour office will back you up if nothing is amiss.

If terminated for a valid reason (cause) the company is not required to pay severance.

My wife doesnt know how to deal with a bully. She just says nothing and goes home really upset.

Well you call the manager and tell the manager you will give corporate headquarters if she does not fire her and watch the manager forget the whole affair.

Simple and denied to wife you made the call get a new sim card

As a farang its not easy to interfere in a thai work matter - we have to keeps our noses clean nowadays just to stay in the country..

just take her out somewhere special and take her mind of it.

Or make a visit to her workplace just to drop something off, maybe some boxing gloves..

Don't forget that defamation laws in Thailand are very severe. Employment law in Thailand is generally fair, she is entitled to severance unless they have a solid case of gross misconduct and a history of warnings.

Interested that people are commenting on bonus, I assume that bonus' are a benefit at the discretion of the company and not a right, so doubt they are trying to force a resignation based on that, and really it is a small amount for a company that size.

Crickets. Do you need the money?

I wouldn't let anyone treat my wife that way (if I had one.) I'd grab her out of there and tell them to #$%*&@ off.

Unless I really needed the money, I wouldn't let anyone treat her that way for two seconds.

Yeah cool, but the best revenge is not to be intimidated.
