PM: Thailand is the tiger ready to leap

BANGKOK, 6 December 2014 (NNT) – The Prime Minister has addressed that lessons from ASEAN countries will be used as principles for national reform, comparing Thailand as a tiger ready to leap forward.

The Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has said in a nationally televised broadcast on the principles of national reformation that the government will avoid three common mistakes from ASEAN in countries.

These mistakes are the lack of good governance, corruption issues, and an insincere reformation process, said the Prime Minister.

He said that the situation in Thailand is still not as severe but problems need to be solved as soon as possible, especially for the corruption issue that has worsened the credibility of the nation.

According to the Prime Minister, the key method to solve this problem is discipline in all sectors an a mindset for public benefits, while the governing government must uphold good governance and should not propose populist policies without laying the foundation for the future.

Regarding the national reform, the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), the cabinet, the National Legislative Assembly (NLA), the National Reform Council (NRC), and the Constitution Drafting Committee (CDC) must work together with the same goal to drive the nation forward with the people at its center, said the Prime Minister.

He further said that the government and the NCPO is now working in full capacity to solve the economic problem. He said that Thailand will leap forward like a tiger after the problems are solved.

He said that the main principle of economic recovery is the people should have the same opinion, avoid the same mistakes, and practice the sufficiency economy principle.

The Prime Minister also mentioned that Thailand has the potential to be the center of the ASEAN Community when the internal issues are solved and the people are reconciled. The government and the NRC are listening to the public opinions for the reform.

if it weren't for the seriousness of the situation in Thailand, this guy would make for good entertainment.

The quote was "We are ready to mobilize Thailand, and we are ready to be the hub of Asean. We are ready in all dimensions, but the things that are holding us back are the ongoing conflict and pervasive corruption. We need to make sure all of these problems are permanently eradicated."

Mobilize? Rush hour traffic is about as mobilized as BKK ever was. The hub of ASEAN? With neighbors having their citizens exploited and mismanaged by Thai human traffickers? We are ready in all dimensions? There is not even a consensus here on what year the Buddha was born. The things holding us back are conflict and corruption? These are the things that brought you forward, last time anyone actually checked recent history. Permanently eradicate these problems? You are suggesting to completely eradicate Thainess.

What a grandstand showboat mockumentary this episode was....

"... comparing Thailand as a tiger ready to leap forward."

More like a senile tiger that doesn't realize it is leaping over a steep cliff heading for a oblivion, while all the other tigers have ascended to the top of the mountain.

Prayut urges reconciliation now

BANGKOK: -- Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-ocha called on all people to start reconciliation to move the country's reforms forward, and urged that all resistance and corruption stop to avoid being a failed state.

In his weekly televised address early on Saturday, which was put off from Friday night due to the holiday, Gen Prayut said he would like all the people to use this day when the nation celebrated the 87th birthday anniversary of the King to start reconciliation.

He said the reform plans in eleven areas have drawn interest and awareness from the private sector with academics and students proposing their ideas to each committee in charge which is a good sign of reconciliation.

But he urged that as reform is underway, he would like resistance and conflict to stop as this could obstruct path to democracy.

If all could come to talks, accept each other views and compromise with hearts then the country would never fall into crisis again, he said.

He said he was glad people were keen to voice their opinions on reform.

“After having read some of the suggestions, I thought some of them were great, ” he said.

He then pointed three factors that could transform a country into a failed state — lack of governance, corruption and lack of reform agenda.

He said the country need to be a crouching tiger getting ready to leap forward.

“Everyone needs to share the vision of how we can ensure our bright future and what we must do in order not to repeat those mistakes,” he said.

He said today he was worried about one thing — conflict. If conflicts continue to drag on, it will be difficult for a true democracy to be restored.

He said his government was ready to mobilise Thailand to be the hub of Asean.

“We are ready in all dimensions, but the things holding back are the ongoing conflicts and corruption. We need to make sure all of these problems are eradicated for good,” Gen Prayut said.

Speaking on the King’s birthday anniversary, Gen Prayut urged all Thais to wear yellow throughout December to celebrate His Majesty the King’s birthday.

This was to display our loyalty and gratefulness to His Majesty the King, he said.

Thais should also hold and join activities to celebrate the occasion until the end of the year.

He said the government has held nine events to celebrate the occasion.

Among them is the development of a mobile app called “Happiness and Contentment as taught by Father”, featuring nine categories of royal speeches, which are education, fairness, unity, responsibility, the good of the whole, development, sufficiency, virtues and ethics, and happiness and goodwill.

He asked that everybody help circulate this application and make use of it, so that all may adhere to His Majesty’s teachings in their lives, and bring about sustainable and true happiness.

Talking about his concern for the handicapped and the elderly, Gen Prayut said he has instructed all government facilities to be accessible to the handicapped and those who require supporting equipment.

Gen Prayut said all government facilities must assure that social equality is upheld and fundamental rights are protected.

“These facilities and services include mass transit, public restrooms, and other places that need ramps for people who travel in wheelchairs. These ramps must not be too steep so that the disabled can help themselves. Ramps must also connect places in the facility, so that people in wheelchairs can have equal access to things they need,” he said.

He said Koh Kret, one of the most famous tourism sites in Nonthaburi, has been developed as a pilot project of the creation of Universal Design Community Mode. The project has been carried out with help from the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, the Ministry of Transport, Chulalongkorn University, Pak Kret Municipality, and members of Pak Kret community.

He said the Koh Kret model “is to promote the convenience and safety of the handicapped and those who require supporting equipment to go about daily life”.

His definition of people requiring supporting equipment includes the elderly, recovering patients, veterans, young children, pregnant women and even ladies in high heels and short skirts.

“They will be able to leave home and carry out activities conveniently and safety, able to roam freely and independently without requiring the assistance of those around them,” Prayut said.

On domestic investment, Gen Prayut said he would set up one-stop-service centres to expedite approvals for investment-related permits and documents.

Laws will also be amended to streamline work permit application procedures for investors, specifically the section on aliens working in regional operation headquarters.

“Previously, no more than five work permits may be issued for each ROH [regional operating headquarter]. The amendment increases this number to 10, with the option of requesting more,” he said.

He also recalled his state visits saying they focused on regional connectivity, trade, investment and tourism and all were successful.

In Laos on Nov 26-27, both sides talked about various linkages – management of border passing tolls, customs, the 5th Thai-Lao bridge linking Bung Kan and Pakxan and the consideration of a 6th bridge to link Ubon Ratchathani with Salavan province.

Another special economic zone will also be developed in Nong Khai in addition to the one in Mukdahan.

In Vietnam on Nov 27, both sides targeted bilateral trade value at US$15 billion by 2017, he said.

He said he proposed the opening of coach services between Thailand’s Northeast and Vietnam’s central region by next year to bolster trade, investment and tourism.

Thailand also proposed that its low-cost airlines participate in the launching of new flight routes, as well as seafaring services along the coastline within next year for tourism and transport, he added.

During his trip to Malaysia on Monday, the premier said Thailand would continue with a dialogue for peace in the southern border provinces and the role of Malaysia as a facilitator country and as coordinator between the various groups of differing views to come to the dialogue process.

The Rubber City project — a collaboration between Songkhla province and Kedah State — will increase the value of rubber products and spur employment, he said, adding both are also looking into methods of raising the rubber price.

I rather like the analogy of the Tiger to Thailand, quite fitting actually......because if this Tiger don't leap soon, just like the real Tiger, it faces extinction!

Not just stupid - he manages to combine that with an extraordinary lack of grace. You look at him and think, is this really what the PDRC had in mind? Those people are bastards but surely even they can't be satisfied with this charmless oaf blundering through national life.

He reminds me of "Dubbya" the little Bush. He was an embarrassment much like Prayuth is.

I am confused.

Speech says learning from asean countries, but Asean countries opening up visa's while thailand tightening.

Asean opening up foreign ownership while thailand tightening

So what exactly has thailand learned? How to loose foreigners? Or is there another lesson I missed
