2 more districts in Loie Province declared cold disaster zones

LOIE, 13 Dec 2014, (NNT) - Officials have declared 2 more districts in Loie Province cold disaster zones; meanwhile, the Public Relations Department (PRD) handed out donated blankets and stationary to locals and students in cold struck areas in Nan Province.

The donation caravan, which left Bangkok for Nan since Thursday, arrived at its destination in Bor Klua District yesterday: officials planned hand out the donated blankets to various schools in the area today.

Meanwhile, Phu Kradueng and Phu Ruea Districts of Loie have been declared as cold disaster zones after the temperature in the areas has dropped to 9 degree Celsius, affecting more than 130,000 residents. Although the local administration officials have distributed about 16,000 blankets to the locals, many of the cold victims are still in need of winter clothing.

The Department of Meteorological has recently predicted that temperatures in Thailand’s Northern and Northeastern Region would further drop by 2-4 degrees Celsius in the next few days, as a result of the high pressure trough from Vietnam and Laos.
