connda
Human Rights - Like institutionalizing discrimination? Foreign women married to Thai men are granted a clear avenue toward citizenship, whereas foreign men married to Thai women aren't due to 'national security'. Those types of Human Rights are being celebrated mai?

Popular Post kalasiner
Thailand has unlimited Human Rights....for the rich. You can kill policemen before holidaying in Singapore or making a career in the police farce. You can use slave labour, pollute the country with your mines and fertilizers. You can deforest and occupy national parks. You can plunder the public purse and increase fuel prices when the world price is plummeting. Best of all, your wrongdoings are protected by tailor-made LM and defamation laws: the only parts of the injustice system that function impeccably. They...the rich Thais... have good reason to celebrate Human Rights Day. Edited December 13, 2014 by kalasiner

bangrak
Why are TV contributors startled seeing Thailand having a 'Human Rights Day'? Why not? As if one would need to actually 'have' something to celebrate it here! Thailand also has a special day for 'Democracy', and one for 'Revolution', it even has huge commemorating monuments for both, while there was NEVER anything close to a 'Democracy', or to a 'Revolution', in the Kingdom, so what...? Isn't there a 'Constitution Day', with its monument too? Even 'Labour Day' (a typical socialist ...and communist initiated event in the World) is on the festive calendar! And so many others, referring to far fetched unreachable concepts in this country...

Popular Post connda
connda Why would you want to change your citzenship to Thai? Because then you'd have no human rights at all. Dual citizenship. I'm simply tired of the sword of Damocles hanging over my head if some misfortune transpires in my old age that would create a situation where I was forced to leave Thailand and my family that I've supported all these years. I'm tired of being treated like a criminal, forced to continually report my presences and status. So yes, I would like citizenship so that I have some peace of mind and the ability to continuing supplementing my income with work that I can't presently perform and to provide for my family in a manner that is impossible for me to do at the moment. That's just basic Human Rights I asking for. The ability to care for my family who live here in Thailand, and none of whom have the desire to be ripped up the roots of the family to moved to the West. tbthailand
"It was a bright day in April and all the clocks were striking thirteen" The opening words of George Orwell's 1984. The lies and deceit increase day by day, though there is some comic relief given the stupidity and lack of awareness involved. Jayboy, at least there are some Thais who do get it. Wilsonandson
Connda Why not apply for residency. There are human rights and there are immigration rules and regulations, these are rules that you know and I know and not human right issues. Come on, I would like to buy land and build a house but the land law in this country prohibits it for foreigners. Rules are rules I'm afraid. asmodeus
I recently read a bloodcurdling document called 67 years of oppression in Thailand since 1947. It lists in chilling detail all the extrajudicial murders (11,135 souls more or less) of the murderous Thai Mafia State. 67 years is a good age to retire from politics, isn't it? Happy Christmas reading for Thai Visa Members: PDF English: 60-Years-of-Oppression-in-Thailand: https://facthai.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/60-years-of-oppression-in-thailand.pdf Alternate PDF English: UPD to world leaders Eng.pdf 3.57 MB" http://www.awid.org/content/download/125304/1415046/file/UPD%20to%20world%20leaders%20Eng.pdf PDF Thai: Thailand files for world leaders Thai.pdf 993.31 kB: http://www.awid.org/content/download/125304/1415046/file/UPD%20to%20world%20leaders%20Eng.pdf "In this document about the Land of Smiles we bring forward evidence, since 1947, of close to 11 000 people who, in one way or other, were assassinated in their struggle for democratic representation. For six decades the power elite in Thailand has done all it can to cover-up the trail of extra-judicial political killing it oversees with impunity, and it must be understood that the figure of 11 000 is probably less than half, or even only one third, of the actual level of sacrifice." http://hirvikatu10.net/timeupthailand/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/A3-11135-2.jpg

Come on, I would like to buy land and build a house but the land law in this country prohibits it for foreigners. Rules are rules I'm afraid. Once set of rules for foreign women married to Thai men. Another set of rules for foreign men married to Thai women. That is discrimination based on sex which is a human right's violation in the eye's of the European Convention on Human Rights. Does that mean squat here in Thailand? No. That was the initial point I made. Still is.

Shaunduhpostman
Somehow I get the feeling that actually they didn't expect anyone would have any interest in their celebration, perhaps because they didn't have any interest? Dunno. That said, I thought the use of the past tense in the 3rd paragraph by either the committee or the media was particularly rich icing on the human rights party time cake: "NHCR Chairman Professor Amara Pongsapich said Thailand always ensured that human rights were recognized and respected, as seen in many political situations over the past few years. The NHCR successfully campaigned for human rights in Thailand since Thai people now realized the importance of human rights better. Thailand was committed to further improve the human rights situation and it was on its way to a better, equal society, said the chairman."
