Thai officials’ reaction to terrorism act in Australia

BANGKOK, 16 Dec 2014, (NNT) - In light of the siege of a cafe in Sydney yesterday, in which three people including a lone ISIS gunman were killed, high ranking Thai officials have said the Kingdom is not a target of terrorist attacks.

According to Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha, such an incident would not occur in Thailand given the country's tight security measures and close relations and cooperation with neighboring countries in terms of terrorism prevention efforts. Besides, Thailand is not involved in the ISIS conflict in any way; however, he declined to make further comment, saying doing so may eventually spark a dispute.

Supreme Commander of the Royal Thai Armed Forces, General Worapong Sa-nga-nate has also said he does not think a tragic incident like this will happen in Thailand as the country is not a target of terrorist attack.

He said security measures for the upcoming Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Summit in Bangkok on December 19th - 20th will be maintained at the present level and there is no need for reinforcement.

Regarding recent rumors that a group of ISIS has secretly entered the Kingdom through the Southern border areas, General Worapong said officials have been assigned to look into the claim.

Commissioner General Police General Somyod Poompanmuang yesterday underlined the strength of the country’s security measures, saying the authorities have been closely monitoring terrorists' activities as well as maintaining strict anti-international terrorism measures. He also echoed General Worapong’s statement that Thailand is not a target of terrorist attacks, but that the nation is constantly on alert for such incidents.

Ah, all that baloney happening in the south is but a dream, under their eyes. If it is not terrorism, what is it? A Disney ISIS fun ride?

  • So these guys don't have a terrorism problem in the South, that's just our imagination.

  • The thing is, for me, the more they say we're not under threat, no terrorist targets here, not us, no way, the more I start to worry. The gentlemen doth protest too much.

This guy must walk around with blinkers on.

There are Terrorists activities going on in the south and the Prime Minister has in deed sent more troops to the south to keep the peace and order.

The Australian Gov have issued warnings for Australians to be careful in Bangkok, Phuket and Pattaya due to Terrorist threats.

They also have a current warning (DO NOT TRAVEL TO SOUTH THAILAND)

There's not much difference between fanatic scumbags in the rest of the world and the fanatic, teacher-shooting scumbags in the south.

So they have better security standards at immigration and checkpoints than Australia? I doubt it.

When they make statements. Like this. Now is the time to worry!

It's only a matter of time before their face gets blown off.

Wow, head in the sand or what?

Seriously, what's wrong with junta?

It's really unbelievable how they can do more and more bs statements day after day.

I could have said they can't say past their noses, but now can't see even their noses! blink.png

Thailand and security in the same sentence?? Makes me nervous.

Reminds me of the hightened bordersecurity to prevent the Indian terrorist from entering Thailand.

Only to realise, that he had entered through the countrys main airport two weeks earlier.

"Welcome Sir, enjoy your holiday"

Thai officials got it all wrong, no ISIS no nothing, this man was a rouge operator

with a huge agenda to prove, an Iranian refugee that came to Australia

after the Iranians them selves thought he was too crazy and radical even for them, and throw

him out and that's says a lot for the Iranians...

he had a long history of problems with the law in Oz, a hate preacher and a sex offender who fancied

him self as the new voice in Islam.. a real nut job and a crack pot... but this is not to say that what

he did is excusable, although all the Muslim communities in Oz and even the Iranians themselves

came out to condemn his action.. never the less, Australia, who opened her arms hearts and homes

to such people got a very rude awakening... as it will happened again....

Bali wasn't a threat! Tourists were!

Firstly the gentleman concerned was not involved with ISIS he was a Sunni Muslim, well know to the Feds, was a self appointed mufti and preached hate was on bail for sex offences , last year was accessory to murder of his wife and sent hate mail to the families of fallen service personal, the question is why was this prick still out and about and even still worse still in Australia , this had nothing whatsoever to do with immigration, except some idiot let him migrate here , Thailand would do well to get their own house in order in the south , bah.gif Thailand's track record so far says it all.

General Sa-nga-nate must have been asleep during these events:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2014_Hat_Yai_bombings

If he still not believe it will happen here he can see some other evidence on this page: https://www.google.co.th/search?q=bombings+in+hatyai&biw=1600&bih=751&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=FKuPVN3WMo2B8gWJoYAw&ved=0CD4QsAQ that it actually had happened already in Thailand.

Uhhm.... I thought the deep south was subject to terrorist attacks on a weekly basis? Or maybe the deep south does not count as a part of "Thailand" as there are no "Thais" there?

Maybe they should assign a committee that would look into the unsubstantiated claims of terrorism acts in the deep south?

No condolences??? Just a self obsessed rant about him and his security (military) capabilities? Thailand WHAT have you done?...

Note to all wannabe terrorists. If you intend traveling to Thailand you're more than welcome to use Air Asia. Once your up in the air you can threaten to blow up the airplane plus crew and all the other passengers and in exchange for a possible slap on the wrist you'll get well treated.

What an idiotic statement to make.

As others have pointed out, this loon was not ISIS.

But to say Thailand is not a target of terrorist attacks is so ridiculous. Every week there is innocent people shot or blown up by...guess who...TERRORISTS.

I had faith in this clown, but him and his circus mates are really starting to piss me off.

Forgot.

Condolences to the two casualties in Sydney.

I think the Australian police and government did a good job under the circumstances

Unlike some other countries, at least Thailand is not using terrorism as a way to bread fear in the population so government can gain more control and insight into their lives.

6300 dead people in the south disagree with the General about the state of terrorism in Thailand

How much more control could they get?

Should read:

"We are not a target of international terrorist attacks, we are safe as we already have our own terrorists in house"

"According to Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha, such an incident would not occur in Thailand given the country's tight security measures and close relations and cooperation with neighboring countries in terms of terrorism prevention efforts."

Sorry, but I'm laughing more than yesterday. As I said, everyday he just gets worse. But half my laughs are tears, because this idiot has no idea what the hell he is talking about. To say such an incident would not happen here because of the contry's tight security measures..... well they seem to have no idea who comes in our out, judging by the numebrs if illegal entrants and fugitives leaving over the last years. Codswallop Prayuth.... and yes, you need a wallop - insensitive nobhead!

Someone is twisting the facts here. He was a lone criminal from Iran had nothing to do with IS or terrorism.

It was simply a hostage situation. Apparently the police who were patient at first lost patience so they executed him along with two hostages.

It was simply a hostage situation. Apparently the police who were patient at first lost patience so they executed him along with two hostages.

While the incident is being fully investigated and there is yet to be a conclusive statement, initial reports suggest that the police did not lose patience. They reacted to a situation which arose within the cafe, at that time.

As can been seen in the ABC News 24 footage, flashes of light can be seen within the cafe (alleged gunfire) prior to the reaction by the police.

While it is merely speculation, it would suggest that the gunman had started shooting the hostages prior to the entry by the police.

Full details will be released following a full investigation of the incident.

I ran out of 'likes' on this one. Not a single poster said something stupid!

Amazing Thailand (Visa Forum).

This has never happened before. I'm having a beer to celebrate.

Wow. I can't say anything but +100,000.
