Can I increase my ADSL upload speed?

Featured Replies

I have ADSL service from TOT - "ToTHome".

I recently upgraded my service to the fastest download speed that my location could support ==> 13Mbps. Now I can watch Youtube videos/TV without any problem.

I didn't give much thought to the upload speed.

Now I have an opportunity to do some online tutoring, but there's a problem. The tutoring software application requires my upload speed to be at least 0.5Mbps. When I measured the speed during the busy hours of yesterday evening, the Speedtest.net results were 7Mbps down, 0.33Mbps up ==> I was turned down for this tutoring :(

Is it possible to increase the upload speed of my service? (Meaning can I request an upgrade to the upload speed without increasing the download speed?). I'm not sure if the upload speed is 'set' by ToT, or is always a fraction of the download speed.

Yes you can. Call 1100 for tot help desk. I have fibre but previously I was on ADSL. I had my upload increased from the standard 512Kbps to 1Mb and then later 2Mb. I was on what they called Diamond cyber if I recall correctly. I can't remember the cost either, but it wasn't much.

I currently have 20M down and 2M upload on fibre2U and as far as I'm concerned its been great though many people complain about TOT in Phuket.

ADSL2+ technology has a theoretical maximum upload speed of 1.4 Mbps but normally is closer to 1 Mbps. In reality it will likely be even less than that.

So you will need to switch to another technology. As Pomthai suggests, Fibre is probably your best option.

ADSL2+ Annex M can provide upload speeds of 2Mbps+

However I don't think TOT offers 2mbit upload on adsl line.

OP can you test your speed in speedtest.net using Thai servers? How much upload speed you get?

If problem is international upload speed, you may need a Thai VPS for VPN purposes to bypass bandwidth throttling of TOT and other ISPs.

Fibre requires the physical laying of fibre-optic cable to my premises, I assume? (There being no other premises in my soi)

Why don't you get AIS Airnet?

You can get 7/7 or 10/4 mbit (high upload speed) for 590 baht.

No need for fiber / cable deployment. Works via 5ghz wifi link from AIS tower to your home.
