SATTAHIP: -- Victims of a 10 Million Baht Car Rental Scam reported the alleged crime to Sattahip Police on Wednesday and it is thought that 23 vehicles are involved in the case.

The group of more than 10 car owners reported to Police that a woman named as Khun Patsaraporn aged 45, had approached the car owners and told them that if they gave their vehicles to her she would take them to Pattaya and rent them to foreign tourists. She guaranteed a minimum rental income of 25,000 Baht per car per month.

The car owners signed contracts and handed over their cars, but never received any rental income and when they tried to contact the woman, her phone was turned off and she had moved out of her house located in the Sattahip area.

This is the latest scam amongst Thais I know a couple of people that have fallen victim.

A similar one is people offering to buy your car. They give a deposit and sometimes a fake ID and and drive off.

Most of these vehicles are sold to Burma and Cambodia.

In the last big car rental scam the police were heavily involved in it, brought to life

when the stolen cars were found at the police station. Wonder if that is what has

happened here.....

And Malaysia, there is a big traffic of cars and motorbikes between Thailand and Malaysia.

i would have thought the biggest appeal in the deal was the face gain for scamming the foreigners. monetary gains being secondary consideration. do you think they would have agreed if the cars were to be rented to thais? no of course not.

Easy scam. All these people fell for the government 100K baht back scheme, and now are trying to figure out how to keep the payments up. Along comes a white knight with an offer of 25K/mo and they are all to eager to hand over their cars.

It's mostly stolen vehicles from Malaysia coming to Thailand because they're cheaper in Malaysia.

Nope... They watch Soap Operas so they know how to live life, respectfully and with sound effects

We had a Fortuna i wanted to sell and downsize, various people came to look but could not afford the payments, one lady came and saw the car (when i wasn't there) and became very interested but only came at night, very suspicious to the point where she turned up one night while i was out with a car full of fellows wanting to give a deposit and drive it away, on the phone to my girl i said no to the deal, the lady left and we parked the car in a safe location for a while, we were later told that the lady was involved in a scam and selling the cars in Cambodia, if it wasn't for my gut feeling and stubbornness i probably would have lost the car, follow your instinct.

So is there one amongst us that would hand over a car to a stranger on the receipt of a deposit? I think not. And if you do, you deserve to lose it for such foolishness.
