Samui's The Peak Project Hit By Land Concerns

Recommended Posts

I apologise to you Khunt Steve for talking to my Friend about it too...

If i ever bump into you on Samui, i'll gladly buy you a drink ( sh*, i won't be able to as you don't live here )...

Overall assessment, as long as the Island keeps it's identity & beauty ( you have to add Developments to that as this is a changing World which includes Koh Samui ), i'll be happy !!!

but me personally, no, not involved

Oh its another beautiful day here in Samui, a bit windy and overcast and potentially a shower or two, with some clouds gathering over the hills above the peak development, generally though a nice temperature for me to go and have a walk around outside and breath in some fresh sea air (except if I wander too far and end up down by the fish market). All in all a better option than getting ito a spiral of discussion that seems to be leading nowhere and making no significant contribution to the betterment of mankind, the Koh Samui property development landscape or the eco-system... see you in an hour or two when I have freshed up a bit.

This thread has made an interesting read. As always, things may not be as they seem! Here's my one cents worth:

Stevieff is perfectly entitled to comment on the peak development - the news story was posted here for exactly that reason. I do think his comments were a too strong (crooks etc) given that the news stories related to allegations not convictions. However, as the story developed the investigation points more strongly towards breaches of the law in that development.

Mr Naranja is entitled to defend the project. However, with a friend "involved" in it, his opinions should be read with this in mind as he clearly seems to wish to defend the project on this basis. I say this because all his subsequent posts were about attacking/insulting Stevieff rather than saying anything useful about the story itself. With a friend on the inside it would have been good to get a bit of useful information into the thread about the Peak perspective, but all we got were an exchange of insults.

I, like others here, am also wary of newbie's who suddenly appear and defend a project/company. No problem with companies getting on to forums to put things right if they feel they have been unfairly slandered, but they should never do it under the guise of a ordinary member.

More and more on this forum I see posters coming out of the woodwork with dubious motives. It is the duty of all members to flush them out. :o

Khun Jean

it seems that you are very bitter towards Samui.

Many people live on this Island happy and scam free , could it be you are one of these people that have had a bad expeinece on this Iskland , what is the difference between purchasing property in Krabi or Phuket the law is the same al over Thailand .

What this space i am sure the Thai Government will get it right and change the laws as the need to welcome foriegn investment

Always when someone tells his opinion it is categorized as a 'bitter' one.

Samui IS a different place, and with more people after your money than anywhere in Thailand. The developers and realestate agents outnumber the coconut trees.

The number of people that are scammed into starting a company is staggering.

I did not have a bitter experience with that, i just rented.

And when i not liked it anymore i moved. I did not know those bikers i mentioned where a gang. He_ll i would have ben gone faster.

I just did my best the past last year to warn people that they were doing illegal things.

I had to endure much criticism, but look who was right all along. I just met too many people that went for it without even knowing what they got in too. I feel most sorry for the elderly, most around bophut and meanam, that will have a high risk of loosing their retirement home.

I have a Thai wife and two children with dual nationality. For me it is not difficult to own land and house. I do like the Chinese, i wait one generation before committing.

I choose not to stay on Samui because of all the building that is going on, and the fact that tourism is not centered on Chaweang and Lamai anymore. There is no escape from it as the island is too small. No bad feelings, only i pity the way it is evolving. Paradise lost...

Well where did that come from? Would you kindly like to point out the "insult" in my post. If you could spell buffoon, that would actually be an insult. By the way, your points are not made any more compelling by adding more exclamation marks and question marks at the end!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have no idea why you are defending the peak project, other than your mention of a friend who is involved - and that was kind of my point don't you think. If you are defending for other reasons, then feel free to enlighten everyone here.

As for the insults, I tend to leave that to people like yourself. Go and try your "He said, she said" somewhere else. I suppose you do not think that calling somone "Khunt ...." is insulting. Perhaps you could stop attacking others and spell out what you actually think of the project, the rumours/allegations or the people concerned.

fron todays BK post

Samui land owner nabbed at Don Muang

WASSAYOS NGARMKHAM

A Koh Samui landlord was yesterday arrested at Don Muang airport for alleged illegal occupation of land and forest encroachment on the resort island. Suthep Wangdan, alias Ko Sai, 50, was detained by a team of forestry police, said Pol Maj-Gen Lattasanya Piansomparn, commander of the Central Investigation Bureau's natural resources and environmental crime department.

The arrest followed a complaint filed on Aug 20 by Noppadol Pattama, assistant to caretaker Natural Resources and Environment Minister Yongyuth Tiyapairat and Forestry Department deputy chief Thanee Viriyarattanaporn against Mr Suthep for allegedly encroaching on forest land on Khao Duang Nok mountain in tambon Bor Phud on Samui island.

Just for the record, Charma, I only mentioned The Peak Project as being crooks after the government panel had determined they had acquired land illegally. I do admit, however, that my language was a bit too strong in other comments.

I wish to say thank you Khunt Roberto for your kind words. I must, however take issue with one point. My wife does speak some english, but is very fluent in thai, since she was born in Samui. I hope I do "bump" into you for the free drink you have offered, since we do regularly visit Samui and own land there and have a vested interest in the islands future. I would love to hear your view-point regarding how foreigners residing on the island seem to have a better knowledge of the islands future than do the natives. I also apologise to you, Khunt Roberto, about my claim with your association with The Peak. I do find it interesting, though, that you're "friend" has never come forward

I got cut-off. I will finish. I do find it interesting that your "friend" has never come forth to defend The Peak project, only you Khunt Roberto. I had an imaginary friend once, too, Khunt Roberto, when I was 4 years old, but then he went away. Once again, Khunt Roberto, for your kind words.

true k.jean, but then I have the feeling they would just post again, or others would moan about over moderation. Can't make all of the people happy all of the time.

So, instead, lets just get back on topic and any further offensive messages will result in warnings.

Does anyone think the current state of affairs (ie the coup) will slow down or even stop the current investigations?

It will be interesting to see how all these investigations proceed from now on. I guess it will now depend on which side of the coup the people concerned were on. It could get a lot worse fro some that might have had a degree of protection before.

Actually what we may see is a two pronged approach.

With one hand they may go after Thaksins assets, but this will have disastrous effects on foreign investment.

What we may well see is some new laws enacted to keep and encourage foriegn investors.

If foreign investors are driven away it will have huge implications on the economy, sending it into stagflation.

Because a Friend has interests in it ???

Robert

Does your friend have any more news that he and you are willing to post here? I see that the large signs have been taken down at the entrance and obviously that leads to speculation ... so rather than speculate I thought I would ask you and your friend.

Regards.

Don't you mean his "imangery" friend? The one that never posts in defense of The Peak, even though he has the investment in it?

I am not sure what an "imangery" friend is, but with posts like this it is unlikely that Roberto and his friend would feel inclined to answer, even though there are a a lot of us in Samui interested to find out what is happening.

There was a lot of activity and noise when it all came out but there has been nothing lately... just curious thats all.

The fact is Roberto's "friend" has never answered to any of it, regardless of posts, so your point is sort of moot, isn't it? If you don't understand "imangery" friend, how about "fictional" friend? You know, the kind of "friend" that doesn't really exist but serves your purpose for internet posting? If you read the complete thread, I think you'll know what I mean. Anyway, good luck to you getting Roberto's "friend" to post.

take the chip off your shoulder and go and read a good book - I suggest a dictionary, perhaps it will calm you down while you learn to spell "imaginary" as opposed to "imangery".

Have a nice day :o
