Free land, wifi, teeth, movie tickets, parties is this guy trying to buy the people and their votes?

Would be nice to have free wifi, but it would probably be low speed and likely unreliable yes?

Anyone have good experience with low grade internet in Thailand?

You mean this hasn't already been in place for the past three years???

What happened to the 30 Billion Baht that Yingluck spent?!?!?

Thailand wires up with free Wi-Fi

The Thai government announced it will be offering free public Wi-Fi in the Greater Bangkok area starting on Wednesday, and the roll out is part of its 30 billion baht (US$957 million) ICT master plan called Smart Thailand.

Pretty much the norm ,here

Regards Worgeordie

Don t expect them to increase the bandwidth out of the

country,so expect Free WiFi will make Internet in our

homes even slower.

I like the idea.

Good luck.

The article failed to mention that 30 billion was the budget before expenses were deducted and private jets are expensive to run.

Also taking about rolling out 4G next year while 3G is still having it's problems. All about the continuation of the populist policies under the guise of returning happiness to the populace.

In other news Asia Pacific Telecom yesterday announced the advent of 5G in 3 years time.

Dunno about anyone else but I get very fast 4G all over BKK - much faster than I get in the US, NZ and Oz.

As to free hotspots, the True hotspots are pretty good mostly I find. BKK is far better served for this sort of infrastructure already than many so called western cities.

Off topic posts have been removed, a post using overly large and bold font has been reset to normal.

Nothing is free in Thai('free')land whistling.gif, but good idea all the same. Perhaps they could extend it to hotels and stop them charging silly money for what should be complimentary when you're paying 3-4k a night!

all I know is ..nothing is for free

will we be able to get the daily mail on it?

No but Woamns' Weekly and bi-weekly Middlesex gazette,Me's Elf and Unpopular mechanics likely

" hub for digital eCommerce", yeah right!

Hub may be overwraught, oddly enough I ouldn't fid the local term for hyperbolic

Great. Now drivers can surf the 'net, text, Line, Skype, and talk on phone all at the same time. And drink Hong Thong.

3G has always worked fine for me.

I would like to know why some of the hotels I stay at in Thailand have such fast internet connections. How do they do it ?

And it comes free with the room.

One Hotel we stay at in Phetchabhun is unbelievable, you can download a 700 mb movie in minutes.

<script type='text/javascript'>window.mod_pagespeed_start = Number(new Date());</script>

Will believe it when I see it

I am still waiting for real 3G

If I hadn't been told, that populist policies were a thing of the past, I would think....

It's called "returning happiness to the people" - which is different vote buying via populist policies..... ummm .... right?
