Highways to North, Northeast expected to be jammed December 30

BANGKOK: -- Highway police forecast traffic congestions on two major routes, Phayothin and Mitraparb (Friendship) highways tomorrow when second waves of travellers are expected to leave the capital for homes in the provinces to celebrate New Year.

The second waves of travellers are those who still have to work today and tomorrow when both days are not public holidays.

Traffic jams are expected from tomorrow afternoon. However police were optimistic that the second wave might not be same as last weekend when huge numbers of people have returned homes using public buses and private cars, causing heavy tragic jams on both highways.

However highway police said they were prepared for the traffic tomorrow and also advised motorists to Nakhon Ratchasima to use other alternative routes to the Northeast.

Traffic today on both major routes was light in the morning but was increasing late in the day.

The through traffic is really amazing at a high volume.

The local traffic has got going as well.

As boring as it sounds I think I'll stay off the main road.

How could the highways possibly get jammed when there are at least 3 invisible lanes in the centre and 4 on the edges of the lanes that can be seen?

After yesterday's 30 minutes trip turned into over an hour, I have vowed to stay at my house until at least the 3 or 4 Jan.
