  • Study revealed all but one of 20 most corrupt countries receive aid from UK

Britain poured more than £1 billion of aid into countries run by the world’s most corrupt regimes in 2013 – despite warnings that much of it will go to waste.
A study by the respected anti-corruption organisation Transparency International reveals that all but one of the 20 most corrupt countries receive aid from Britain.
And figures reveal that British aid to these worst offenders rose by almost a quarter in 2013 compared to 2012 as ministers and officials raced to distribute cash in time to hit the Government’s controversial aid target.

UK 'must do more' to tackle aid corruption

The UK government is not doing enough to tackle "petty corruption" in countries to which it gives aid, a report by a scrutiny body says.
The Department for International Development "has little understanding of what is and is not working" in its anti-corruption efforts, according to the report.
Dfid says it had plans to tackle corruption in each country it funds.

The UK has pensioners who can not afford to heat a small bungalow, and the government does this? The other lot are no better either.

How much is earmarked for ISIS this year?

^^Insufficient effort Mosh.

More!

Is anybody else wondering whether officials of the UK Department for International Development (DfID) are getting kickbacks from some countries receiving the aid?

Nothing would surprise.

Come on team! I've got to do the tax return this weekend and I want to feel extremely bad doing it.

Stick a fork in the UK. It's done.

Stick a fork in the present UK political system, it's doing us all in.

And I don't mean cutlery for tea and scones.

Does the billion wasted include aid to terrorists, or is there a separate budget for that?

I note the UK entered into a huge arms deal with Qatar, the largest terrorist sponsor, I wonder whether any taxpayers money went into sweeteners to secure that deal.

The aid to terrorists is done internally through immigration and PC laws and government handouts.

The UK has more debt as a ratio to GDP than the USA does despite the moaners, and yet it thinks it can give everyone everything.

The UK's economy is in shambles. Maybe we should move the UK to Texas where the loss of space wouldn't be noticed, and where Texas has a booming economy. But please. Native Brits only. Send the immigrants back to where they came from.

They could send some of the immigrants back and then they wouldn't have to move to Texas. I am afraid some of them wouldn't like the gun laws in Texas.

Just use a good chunk of that money to give the returnees a nice life when they resettle.

Stupid is as stupid does.

Disgusting effort. Round the pollies up and burn the all, start afresh.

Why wouldn't they like the gun laws in Texas? Texas doesn't allow open carry so people have to be vetted, get a license, and conceal. They wouldn't see anything to worry about. tongue.png

I am being facetious. We better be careful, we are going off-topic and you know what that means. biggrin.png

Its crazy

"Britain hands over millions of pounds in aid to China despite the Communist state boasting the second biggest economy in the world, beaten only by the US.

Official figures show Britain gave Beijing £27.4million last year (2012), enough money to pay for 1000 more nurses, according to the Daily Mail"

While the UK economy is like it is, there should not be 1 penny going anywhere in aid. Charity begins at home. Looking at the BBC link, Labour have some nerve.

The West and its political correctness, while millions back home live beyond or on poverty lines

From the linked article in the OP:

...The revelations will raise fresh concerns about David Cameron’s drive to spend 0.7 per cent of Britain’s income on aid.

...

[Tory MP Philip Davies] said: ‘It is a colossal waste of money, which is being done to make lots of middle class worthy people feel better about themselves.’

...

If a country wants to spend 0.7% of its GDP on foreign aid, I think the government should include the money spent on asylum seekers in that budget.

if you give money to a corrupt one wath do you expect in return??£££ or €€€ or$$$
