NLA President: Assize of ex-politicians affects national reform

BANGKOK, 3 January 2014 (NNT) – The NLA President has warned that the demotion proceedings of the former House Speaker, former President of the Senate, and the former Prime Minister could hinder the progress of national reform.

The President of the National Legislative Assembly (NLA) Phonphet Wichitchonlachai has revealed about the demotion proceedings of the former House Speaker Somsak Kiatsuranon, former President of the Senate Nikhom Wairatpanich, the former Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, and 38 former senate members.

He said that these cases have been left unresolved from the former assembly, which the NLA is concerned about the timing of the proceedings, especially for newer cases, as it will consume time from other duties of the NLA.

The NLA President has admitted that there is expected to be some effects to the progress of national reform from this proceedings. Therefore, the NLA will proceed these cases with fairness and uphold to the legal principles.

If the public witnesses that the NLA’s proceedings are fair, they will understand. The NLA has to be impartial, favour no particular side, and refrain from stirring conflict, said the NLA President.

So they should have immunity from impeachment and criminal prosecution because of some vague idea that impeaching and prosecuting them for their alleged wrongdoing would affect a reform process that hasn't even got off the ground. The implication is that the reform will involve legalisation of all criminal activities by rich and powerful politicians. What a sad comment.

Or what do you reckon about the possibility that the current bunch have plenty of skeletons in their own closets that they dont want aired in public after the election.

Lest we forget, that they are all pretty much bent and so all equally terrified of legislation that criminalises stuff retrospectively.

The only way around this is of course to write your own constitution as the army keeps doing.

If they broke the law, they should be prosecuted. The case against the PM will be hard to prove. Not so for the other 2.

No, no, no........if you break the law and you're a nobody.....then you get punished.....if you're part of the elite.....you walk!

Impeachment is a formal process in which an official is accused of unlawful activity, the outcome of which, depending on the country, may include the removal of that official from office as well as criminal or civil punishment.

The coup solved most of that.....

Indeed standing on a sand castle, hardly constitutes the moral high ground when the tide turns.

Assize of ex-politicians affects national reform

I don't think that the size of Yingluck's backside will affect national reform.

Although there was a noted increase..., from eating too much rice?

"The NLA has to be impartial, favour no particular side"

As if you say it isn't, General Prayuth wants private a word or two with you at the nearest military compound. wai2.gif

AS if having a criminal fugitive skype-in into his cabinet meeting to order his ministers around wasn't bad enough already rolleyes.gif
