On checking several sites today which list Visa renewal requirements

I find under clause 5(1) in all of them that

If you are over 60, you need to show a monthly income of 200,000 bht

We have been resident in Thailand for 4 years and previously have only had to show

a bank book with over 800,000 bht in credit

Has something changed?

Or is this an either /or

Any body know please.

RSE, looks like you read it wrong.

It was 200,000 (in the bank) for a marriage visa years ago, not per month.

Naka.

Actually for retirement visa also (200,000) in bank about 14 years ago.

www.thai-info.com

Funny. Nothing about retirement or clause5(1) on that web page.

As said there is nothing but a directory page at that web address and nothing called what you say it is called. Also most directories seem to be about five or more years old.

Please provide a valid link so we may check your information out. Thanks.

Are you playing a game with us? The web page www.thai-info.net again has nothing about a retirement visa.

I beg to differ.

See my post above... :o

The new site (net) address has old information. The retirement age changed to 50 many years ago and the requirement changed to 400k for everyone over ago 50 and then that was increased to 800k since that web site information was valid.

That information is not just old (500 Baht fee) but wrong. They are still referring to 200,000 Baht in a bank account which was several years ago. Use the official sites (immigration or Thai embassy DC) for correct information. Or if still in doubt contact immigration directly.

Oops, see you posted just before me Lop.

Perhaps this was the link previously referred to?
Rse, I have a brilliant idea. That website has a contact form (see here). Why don’t you send them a message and ask your question there. Perhaps somebody who created that site eons ago and never updated it is still alive and will answer you.

I like the idea! :o

'Rse', do make sure to ask them to confirm the following:

5.1 If the applicant is 60 years old or order, the alien must have a definite income of not less than 200,000 baht per month.

Please do post any reply from them... :D

Curious whether anybody was still attending to that site I sent them a query just know and got the following message on screen:

post-21260-1155659304_thumb.jpg

Looks like somebody got to them faster, or perhaps they are reading ThaiVisa and realised that their site is hopelessly out of date.

If I get a reply, I shall post it here.

Quite to my surprise, I did receive a reply from thai-info.net but it was not satisfactory and I have now followed up on it. Please see attachment.

Maestro

So he is claiming:

Actually it is saying this:

He/She must have a definite income, or a bank account with at least 200,000 baht or have an income of not less than

20,000 baht per month.

which indicates 3 options:

1) Having a defined income (basically proof of income)

2) Or a bank account with at least 200,000 baht

3) or have an income of not less then 20,000 baht per month

Hope this helps,

Kind Regards,

It looks as though he is happily ignoring para. 5.1 for the over 60, preferring to selectively quote from 5.3:

"If the alien is ill, or has weak health and is sensitive to colder climates or has resided in Thailand for a long period, and is 55-59 years of age, special consideration will be granted. He/She must have a definite income, or a bank account with at least 200,000 baht or have an income of not less than 20,000 baht per month. The applicant must also submit medical certificates and proof that he/she has lived in Thailand for a long time."

In any event, he seems to be blissfully unaware of the current rules, but I am sure you will put him straight in due course maestro... :o

Attached is the latest update. The site administrator (Thalwin) now says it was a typographical error, should be 20,000 Baht per month. At least this brings him in line with what apparently was the requirement many years ago.

I am giving it a rest for a while and will brief Thalwin of the outcome of my fictitious visit to Immigration in September.

Apologies for wasting all your time

I had a duff and out of date site

anyway it's cleared the air a bit? :o

This can happen to all of us as there is a lot of old and incorrect information on the Internet as it has no "use by date" where material is removed. Normally the top returns with a Google search will be the items to place more trust in; and look for the more official looking sites.

But in any event we have done what a forum like this does best; that is to help filter fact from fiction with current experience and information. Nobody likes to be told they are wrong but it happens to all of us so the most important thing is you kept the door open until the fact were presented. Welcome to the forum.
