Used College Textbooks CM?

Featured Replies

Is there a store to get used college textbooks in CM?

The used bookstores around Thapae Gate don't carry them.

I just PM'd a friend in CM who should know and linked this thread. Sit tight. :)

When you say 'College'--what exactly do you mean?

It may be self-evident to others, but I am not sure; do you mean schools--if so, what Grades?

University, tertiary level

the big time, the ivory tower, call your teachers professors etc

I am looking for undergrad textbooks

Do any of the Universities here use real textbooks? Most teaching I recall was done with handouts and/or local "Professor" created A4 size paperbacks.

These answers suggest members of thaivisa haven't cracked a textbook for some, uh, time.

'Textbooks attempt to present a comprehensive portrayal of a subject matter.'

Textbooks present history as unchanging, as time passes our understanding and interpretation of the past evolves.
Often one-sided, offering a top-down view of the subject.
They don’t accurately reflect how most scholars (at least good ones) write and present history.
Textbooks are boring and can sometimes be intimidating.

The Internet has supplanted the textbook as the best resource for information. There is a lot of junk out there but we have to learn how to decide what is valuable, factual, and readily available, and how to in turn utilize that information to provide a finished product that attains our objective

As learners, we can engage the vast information already at our fingertips to obtain knowledge. Should we still use textbooks?

As stated before almost all texts at CMU are in house publications. They only cost less than 100 baht each so they are most likely thrown away at the end of the course.

The printer shops on campus often have the primary and then they copy it for you.

In order to get one's title at the University they must publish a text book that is currently being used, so the teachers and departments are constantly issuing new texts. Usualy ever 3-5 years

CMU has a book fair every year in late November with a variety of new and used college textbooks in English. I don't know if any of the other universities will have book fairs sooner.
