bobobo
Hi ! I wonder if some of You have experince of this op in Pattaya ? Been to Bangkok/Pattaya hospital. Very nice doctor and staff. Then I went down to see the croccodiles at the economy department. They said 220000 baht. I talked to my regular check the health doctor. He said I must go shopping and check other hospitals. Well, I'm taking a shortcut and asking You BM:s if You have any piece of good advice to give me... Thanks..
steve187
3 years ago i was in need of an operation to repair a detached retina, bangkok rayong hospital wanted to do the operation at pattaya, i opted to have the operation at the EENT hospital in bangkok - http://www.eent.co.th/home.html at a third of the cost, an excellent hospital with very good staff and rooms. I know its in bangkok, but a cataract operation is a quick simple procedure, so would not involve many trips. I have had a cataract operation with a follow up secondary operation in the UK so i have been there and done that. all the best with the operation
guzzi850m2
My wife asked same hospital for a minor operation for removing a nipple like thing near one of her arm pits; 85.000 baht. Despite we are covered for 1mill US$ per head in the family on our health insurance, they wont cover things like that, since it's not health related but more beauty related. Then she went to the public hospital, Banglamung hospital; free and she stayed there 2 nights. Okay waiting time was over 1 month and she shared the ward with many people but she is alive and kicking today. Okay for an expat it will not be for free but likely min 75% cheaper than what you are quoted at BHP.
Subpar
A good friend had cataract removal from both eyes, and mono-focal lens implants done at Bumrungrad less than a year ago. It was about 165K Baht including a single room overnight. If BPH are quoting 220K just for cataract removal, you now have something to judge what sort of a price that is against. ThaiBob
Cataract operations have been discussed many times on TV, do a search. The lens you select is the number one driver on costs. These surgeries are often done on an outpatient basis.
Guderian
A friend had both his done last week in the Pattaya Eye Clinic (behind Big C Extra in what I think is called Pattaya Klang Plaza, the KPK Foods shop is there too). Cost was 120K Baht and they did both eyes on the same day which I thought was a bit reckless but he was happy with it. He's recommending it to other friends with similar problems as he is 100% satisfied.

ThaiBob
I saw a ENT 'specialist' (LOL) at BPH. Her diagnosis was acute tissue degeneration, due to infection, of the sinus. She looked at my x-ray, and proceeded to say that if I did not have surgery - at the bargain price of over 300,000 Baht - then I would develop cancer. She was very convincing, and sexy , but - fortunately - my BS alarm was ringing incessantly! Shocked and worried, I went to their pharmacy to get the copious prescribed medicines. When they asked for over 5000B, I realized that I was being scammed, declined the medicines, and went home. As luck would have it, I had a trip booked to CM for the following week. On arrival, I saw an ENT at CM Ram. His accurate diagnosis was allergic rhinitis. His treatment recommendations were, Antihistamines 2xday, pseudo-ephidrine as necessary, and over-the-counter nasal spray. Total cost for exam, x-ray, and medicines was approximately 1500 Baht! My BS alarm is ringing now.

Yes, I agree, I would certainly never take the risk of having them both done at the same time and I told my mate so but he didn't take any notice. Up to him, as they say.
