Robbers escape with toothpaste and snacks but no cash

The Nation

NARATHIWAT: -- Four gunmen armed with rifles yesterday robbed a convenience store in broad daylight in Narathiwat's Rusoh district and escaped with toothpaste, shampoo and snacks.

The 7-Eleven staff told police that two men, who were dressed in the clothes worn by Muslim women with their faces covered, entered the shop then pulled out AK47 rifles and shotguns. They told the staff not to resist.

One of the two then telephoned a third accomplice who later came into the shop while the fourth guarded the entrance.

The staff said they loaded a basket with goods. They tried to open the till but after failing to do so escaped on two motorcycles parked in front of the shop.

The staffs told police that the suspects made off with only toothpaste, shampoo and some snacks. The entire robbery was recorded on the shop's security cameras and the police are examining the footage to identify the suspects.

Fingerprint and other evidence will be coordinated with Narathiwat police. The suspects took just 12 minutes to rob the store.

AK 47's and a shotgun is a bit OTT for some Colgate and a few bags of munchies.

I note that they refer to them as "gunmen" but describe them being dressed as muslim women.

But then, I suppose gunmen is not a word that can be politically corrected. Gunpersons just doesn't carry the same weight somehow.

I think they must have been watching too much Monty Python.

I wonder why they chose toothpaste rather than the much more high-value cigarettes and booze from behind the counter? Perhaps they really were Muslim. I hope they didn't pick up any shredded pork sandwiches in error - that would have only left them with the toothpaste. Still, I guess they might get a couple of hundred Baht for that on the black market. Split between the three of them, that should give them at least 60 Baht each. Well worth risking a lengthy prison sentence for...

The best robbing ever in TH:

The gunman waited a lot for an armed car close to a bank, cause he got an information that the car will come there, and a huge amount will be carried.

The car arrived and our smart cowboy shot down the driver and the escort.

He found an empty car cause the staff came for the big amount to the mentioned bank and didn't carry there.

How badly wounded were the driver and escort? Did they survive?

It should be against the law for people to cover their faces in public.

If you've been around, then you know that some faces must be covered to prevent public panic.

AK-47's, Shotguns, Men dressed up as Muslim Women, stealing Colgate tooth paste, shampoo and snacks? Sounds to me as if WorkPoint Entertainment was video taping a comedy episode there. Perhaps, Colgate-Palmolive was one of the Sponsors behind the scenes? 12 minutes taken to rob the 7-11 of that stuff? ...........Now a word from one of our Sponsors! IMHO thumbsup.gif

They also referred to them as men because that's what they were.

"robbed in broad daylight"

I never appreciated the term "broad daylight." It means something done that can be clearly seen. Isn't it already obvious that something done in the daylight will be seen? I've never seen a phrase "in broad night" or "in broad foggy day." Then even in this robbery the bandits are wearing disguises to prevent them from being clearly seen. So "irregardless," the term "broad daylight" is at best redunant in this story and can be better desribed as simply a "daylight robbery."
