BANGKOK: -- The National Legislative Assembly (NLA) today voted to impeach former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra with the votes of 190-18 with 8 abstentions. Former Senate speaker Nikhom Wairatpanich survived with the impeachment voting of 120-95 and four abstentions.

BANGKOK, Jan 23 -- The Office of the Attorney-General (OAG) on Friday opted to indict Thailand's former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra on criminal corruption charges, accusing her of dereliction of duty for failing to stop her government-sponsored rice-pledging scheme which was shown to have caused massive losses to the state of more than Bt500 billion.

Crackdown on beggars to begin next week

Bangkok; -- The Ministry of Social Development and Human Security will next week launch a crackdown on beggars throughout the country.

The Mirror Foundation has reported that there are more than 5,000 beggars across the country with many of them being Cambodian children.

The ministry also reported that several foreign beggars have masqueraded as nuns and holy people venturing out on streets to seek “donations” from members of the public. Many of them reportedly earn between 300-1,800 baht a day and reportedly spent the money buying alcoholic drinks or visiting night entertainment venues.

NACC to go after 38 ex-senators and 268 former MPs
