January 24, 201511 yr PM stresses government’s drugs solving effortsBANGKOK, 24 January 2015 (NNT) – The Prime Minister of Thailand emphasizes that the government will solve the problem of narcotics both domestically and internationally.Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha stated in a national televised broadcast that anti-narcotics operations authorities have suppressed drugs networks both inside and outside of Thailand in targeted areas including urban communities, schools, and prisons.The cabinet has approved 30 billion baht budget in the past two weeks to support the operations with Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam on drugs issue, and to support the second phase of the Safe Mekong operation plan that has been in effect from 12 January 2014 to 12 March 2015.Operational coverage will include Thailand, China, Laos, and Myanmar while the Ministry of Interior, the Royal Thai Police, the Royal Thai Army, and the Royal Thai Navy are the main agencies from Thailand in this international cooperative effort.He said that four countries have established the Safe Mekong Coordination Centre to integrate cooperative operations in the targeted areas along the Mekong River.The Safe Mekong Coordination Centre will operate on six objectives, namely checkpoint setting, area searching, Mekong River patrolling, intelligence information gathering, target treating, and the search for the suspects, said the Prime Minister.-- NNT 2015-01-24

January 24, 201511 yr Popular Post Having lived my entire life as most under the world wide narcotics prohibition, I'm still waiting for the upside of the whole thing. Seems that all this prohibition does is waste resources, destroys lives, fill prisons, isolates user, breeds corruption and feeds money to criminal enterprises. More lives have been destroyed by the creation of this illicit narcotics market and the harsh penalties imposed on societies than just about any thing else besides maybe plague.

Putting aside that no country as of yet managed to solve drug problem domestically, how exactly does he think he will solve it internationally?

You ban it because the stupid young people use it to get high, I use it occasionally for my Sinus problems. You can not legislate self discipline !! Still keep sales illegal via person to sales such as pushers smuggling from outside country in to Thailand, mandatory 40 years hard time, Unless suspect gives up kingpin then 2 years if caught doing again life . Kingpins: arresting officers get 10% of asset's seized. Kingpins convicted get natural life in jail. If caught with guns while smuggling add 10 years to term. If operating a drug lab Death is only answer. By doing this you take out the benefit and profit,and harder to bribe way out of crime 2. Not only you keep prisons clear you help farmers by allowing them another crop to earn cash plus tourist's would flock here, with this new freedom.

That's about half of Thailand's total GDP! And we know how poorly Mexico's efforts have been to date - certainly the drug problems have not been SOLVED. If there was a truth-o-meter on General Prayuth's statement, it would explode farang-style.
