UK tourist found dead on Koh Tao consumed Valium, alcohol

I should have been dead years ago if that mix kills . . . . facepalm.gif .

Me too.

Cover up complete..... Or is it?

The UK will do tissue samples as this will be absorbed into bodily tissues, so they will know if this has been faked to give a false cause of death.

Backpackers here get excited about what's freely availlable in the pharmacy's. Valium is just one of them.

But why do UK-girls want to be pissed all the time? On a place like Koh Tao you can be happy without any drugs i guess.

For the same reason many American, Australian, etc etc young ladies want to take drugs and / or drink copious amounts of alcohol.

Why don't you go to KT and check out the young people and explain they don't need any drugs, including alcohol and nicotine in happy Thailand. Should be well received.

There were no signs of rape, the official said. Probably weren't any signs of a lot of things but what brought about that comment? Does that not remind of a kid volunteering an unsolicited statement that there's nothing hidden in his desk. Just sayin'....

It seems to me she wasn't taking Valium or Tramadol recreationally she was taken them under some, albeit ill advised, medical reason. She obviously wasn't well and was hoping to curve her conditions. I don't think she would be so blasé on Twitter about it if it was for another reason.

That's not to say there aren't plenty of recreational users on KT. Assuming otherwise would be very naive. As for the combination being deadly, Tramadol alone would suffice. Let alone drinking alongside it. It doesn't matter who's taken what and survived. Eating a peanut can kill a person who has a bad reaction. Let alone drugs.

British girl on Koh Tao may have died from own medication

27-1-2558-15-20-48-wpcf_728x409.jpg

BANGKOK: -- A British political activist found dead at a bungalow on Koh Tao last week may have died from her own medication used to cure her chronic sickness.

The theory of Ms Christina Annesley’s death was revealed by head of the Institute of Forensic Medicine Pol Maj Gen Pornchai Suthirakun today.

He said autopsy found no traces of narcotic substance in her body and it was believed medication she took for a chronic illness may have caused her death.

He said however that autopsy scientists would try to identify the medication and determine its effects.

However he stated that this would take longer time than the drugs test because of the complexity of the medication.

But at a press conference today Royal Thai Poluce spokesman Pol Lt-Gen Prawuthi Thavornsiri said autopsy showed there were traces of valium and alcohol in the body and might cause death.

The two substances might interact with her medication and thus could effect the breathing system. But this depended on the quantity of doses, coupled with her physical health.

Autopsy scientists would examine in details of the tissues to establish the real cause. The result would be known January 29, he added.

Christina Annesley, 23, from Orpington in London was found dead in a bungalow on Sairee beach of Koh Tao in Surat Thani province on January 21 at the same place as where two British tourists, Hannah Witheridge and David Miller, were found murdered in September last year.

There was no evidence of violence. She was on a bed with a blanket over her. Police found medications in her room. She checked in on January 19.

Yesterday this forum was up in arms because exactly these words were missing. So perhaps the police has someone to read TVF and they issued this statement for the benefit of all the critical readers on here? Can't ever get it right, these poor chaps...

English girls and boys me feel love to try exotic races for pleasure and I see many of them like to get smashed before the session so the drugs may be in relation to the hunt for pleasure in the hotel room, if they could learn to enjoy without drugs and alcohol be safer for them but sometimes I feel they dont want it but they do want it and so they may be confused peoples

Bit confused meself!!!

Slightly off topic, but what was the final autopsy report on the frenchman that was found hanged on the island with his hands tied behind him?

He was dead.

Deaths due to this mixture have been commonplace for decades.

Alcohol and Valium slow down the central nervous system. These depressants slow down the brain and also decrease the heart rate, lower the blood pressure and cause lethargy. Because your brain will control autonomic function like heart beat, breathing, when the concentration is so high that area of the brain is affected, it does not function.

Just as some have done this mixture before and survived does not mean that the combination is safe. there are even warnings on Valium boxes stating not to mix it with alcohol.

RIP to the poor girl. Tragic accident, but as stated quite common.

pharmacies in Thailand are actually relatively strict as to what you can buy over the counter....the real marketplace is Laos or Cambodia!

I hear what you are saying, Its a ''British'' thing, We all start drinking at a very early age, and it often gets out of control..

Go to any City or Town at the weekend, and its ''Wild''... and of course ''Dangerous''..

ermmmmmmmmm not all of us, I hate the taste of alcohol and didnt get peer pressured into " not being boring"

Im from the UK

Same, I have been hospitalized and I still take valium actually, medically speaking for severe anxiety disorder. But I was taking 400mg, yes 400mg not 40 with whiskey, tramadol, oral morphine, clonazepam, xanax, all kinds of stuff. Lucky I had a tolerance, unfortunately I don't think she did, RIP and it is a reminder how easy it is to lose your inhibitions when drinking.

A valium and alcohol will have virtually zero additional effect, like an extra drink or two.

Technically it's possible that it can kill you but I believe you would need to consume a huge amount of both alcohol and valium for this to happen. It wouldn't happen by accident.

Certain painkillers which won't generally be available in Thailand are something different entirely, a few of them with a night of drinking can send you directly to the morgue just like all those hollywood types who occasionally die. They often take valium too but it's the opiate based medications that do the damage.

A few days ago, I drank 3 beers.

If I was murdered tomorrow and the police wanted to suppress that fact, might the police say truthfully, I drank alcohol and ate sticky rice, a potentially toxic combination.

They are telling the truth but clearly not the whole truth as they try to deflect the reader's attention from any blame on any Thai person or entity.

But everyones body acts differently to different things, just because one person can endure a certain drug/alcohol doesn't mean another person has the same tolerance

Not sure, I would check her mobile for failed connections (calls, SMS, data or emails)

Then compare the times of trials to the intervals between trials and the time when alcohol and valium hit the brain (as calculated by a pathologist), mmaybe a notebook or letter would be helpful.

In many cases, people try to make a call or post *before* they take pills, and I would rather call cases like this rather 'suicide attempt with unlucky success' instead of simply 'suicide'. She might have been traumatized long ago, and now suffered from depression in a PTSD.

You know, I don't even believe this. If it's coming from these incompetants........most likely an observation of what was left in the room that was quickly swooped up. And then 15 minutes later the room was filled. Of all the Valium and alcohol I've taken, have never wound dead on my bed DEAD.

That is BS, I have taken Valium 10mg x 5pcs along with a few xanax on allot of beer, back in my heavy party days and I would only pass ot and sometimes piss the bed, OD on valium would have to be around 50 x 20mg pills, bit passing out and puking while lying on your back cold cause you to drown in your own comet, that could be the case.

God there are so many irrational, illogical minds on this forum. Cherry pickers that see what they want to see. Waste of time.

Even if she was taken straight back to the UK for a full autopsy without the interference of anybody you'd still have some ridiculous theory.

If there wasn't a recent murder on KT this wouldn't even be news. That doesn't make it any less tragic.

If this kills, I am a walking dead blink.png

I know I feel lucky too, it can kill but alcohol and valium together isn't that dangerous, add some opiates like tramadol in the mix and things get dangerous 10 fold at least. I did have this video where I took 30mg of xanax because someone was telling me it would kill me, and at that time my tolerance was sky high so I knew I would be fine and I didn't even blackout. Benzos by themselves are pretty much suicide proof, you could take a bottle of valium and you probably would be fine after you eventually woke up.

The combination of the drugs can cause death and as we know many of the drugs you buy in Thailand are copies of the real thing anyway. However to die from the mix would indicate someone trying to deal with deep depression and surely that would have come across in her Facebook posts or tweets.

I think it is understandable that we question any death because of the amount of cover-ups that we see on an almost daily basis

as I have already said many times, most of the discussions on these threads assume that most of what we are being told by the authorities is accurate - personally I don't trust any of it, on the face of it this seems to many as an open and shut case - that is vaguely possible if what we are being told is the truth, notice also that we are being told very little

she was feeling ill with a possible flu or bad cold (around the same time as I had) nothing unusual there

she may have taken valium to relieve the symptoms (nothing unusual there either)

she may have taken alcohol the night she died (unconfirmed that she even went out) if she did go out there must be many people that bumped into her although she did say on FB that she was short on money after paying 60 quid for antibiotics and may not have gone out at all, someone must have seen her return if she did and have the times - it may even be on cctv but there is nothing reported about her movements (unusual)

The drug levels of the toxicology report we omitted (why perhaps because they were not at a level that would be life threatening)

no actual cause of death has been confirmed as of yet (ok so we wait another few days)

hmmmm
