From a construction website:
The club is now holding urgent talks with main contractor Mace and its subcontractors.

Site sources have been in constant contact with the Enquirer warning that the stadium would not be ready for the first planned Premier League game against Liverpool on September 15.

One said: “They have been chucking resources at this for months but it was never going to be ready...

A Mace spokesperson said: “Unfortunately, our routine testing of the critical safety systems has flagged up issues that need to be addressed before the planned test events can go ahead.

“It is extremely disappointing that – as advised by the Club – a further two Premier League matches and the NFL game will now be played at Wembley, particularly for Tottenham Hotspur fans, but I am sure people will appreciate safety is our highest priority.

“The club and the construction team are working diligently to complete the iconic stadium as soon as possible.

“Although these delays are obviously frustrating, once complete the new stadium is going to leave a fantastic, lasting legacy and will be a project everyone involved will be proud to be associated with.”

A translation:

We're behind schedule and the club was well aware of it. The club have been pushing us to finish  on time though that was never feasible. Now the penny has finally dropped for the club. We'll  finish  as soon as we are able and no sooner.

Skippy is a great player and no he's not for sale.

Skippy will be a squad regular this season. An outstanding prospect.

There are a couple of others in the PL. City's Diaz and that WW youngster.

As has been said, he's outstanding and has an excellent attitude but he's still a boy!!

Amos and Georgiou are slightly older and more likely to feature.  I believe Pochettino will hold Skipp back, maximize his U23 experience and possibly next year will be his year to break in.

Its all very well to bring in the likes of these, and Winks don't forget,  but it needs to be a midfield balanced with experience.

Mace faces bill running into millions on Tottenham stadium
By Will Ing16 August 2018

Doubts raised over Spurs’ new home being finished before Christmas

The financial penalty faced by Mace for late delivery of the Tottenham Hotspur’s new stadium will run into millions of pounds, according to a leading construction lawyer.

The news comes as several site workers told Building the 62,000-capacity stadium - where there are swathes of missing panelling showing how much work is still left to be done - will not be finished before Christmas.

One said: “They’ll be lucky to have it finished before Christmas.” But the thousands of workers on site have been given strict instructions not to speak about the problems with one telling Building: “We were told yesterday [Tuesday] not to say anything or we could lose our jobs.”

If the stadium handover takes place in January then Mace, which posted a £23m pre-tax profit last year, could be liable to have millions of pounds deducted from its fees by Spurs.

The Premier League club can take liquidated damages from Mace for the period of time between the agreed deadline and the actual handover date, although the amount will be reduced if games are able to be played prior to completion.

The stadium has an official project cost of £400m, but the real cost is thought to have spiralled to at least £750m.

On Monday evening Spurs announced that it will play its home games against Liverpool and Cardiff City in September at Wembley Stadium because problems with “safety critical features” mean the scheduled test games at the end of August can no longer take place.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy admitted that a scheduled game against reigning Premier League champions Manchester City 11 weeks away at the end of October may also have to be played at Wembley.

Mace’s liquidated damages will have been agreed in its contract with Spurs, and are usually calculated on a weekly basis to allow the client to recoup losses caused by project delays. In Spurs’ case it will be looking to recoup lost income on ticket sales for Premier League matches and an NFL match, as well as recovering additional rent paid to the Football Association for Wembley.

Ian Yule, construction partner at law firm Shoosmiths, said the liquidated damages “could well be a few million,” pointing out that Spurs “will have roughly known their fixture dates, meaning that would have been factored into the liquidated damages agreement”.

According to workers at the Tottenham site, which still has five tower cranes, no grass on the pitch and several visibly incomplete sections, they are working 12-hour shifts and have been banned from taking photographs – with strict penalties for those found posting snaps online.

Mace has not said what is keeping its flagship project weeks behind schedule, and only issued a statement on Tuesday afternoon, more than 12 hours after Spurs was admitted that the scheme was going to be late. Neither Mace nor Spurs have spelled out what the “safety critical issues” at the site are.

In a further statement on Tuesday, Spurs said it was “hugely frustrated” with the delays. The club admitted “delays are common, certainly for builds of this size and complexity” but did not give fans an idea about when they can take their seats at the new ground.

Among the key questions surrounding the scheme are how much of the job remains to be finished, exactly how much Mace will have to fork out to get it completed and what its final bill will be to cover income lost by Spurs which is now heading to Wembley instead.

Mace declined to provide any comment on how much the delays will cost, when the stadium will be finished, or details of why it bust its deadline beyond issues with “safety critical systems.”

In its statement on Tuesday the firm said it was “obviously frustrating” the delays had occurred.

Looks like Toby to Bayern is very realistic if Boating goes to PSG.  We will get top whack and have not sold to a rival, although it would leave us very stretched a the back.

Good business if it happens, but not exactly being brave in the transfer market is it!!  Apparently Poch identified three specific targets and when these were priced unrealistically he wasn't interested in anyone else.  I suppose no one is better than a panic buy!

Makes you wonder if we will drop the price if he goes abroad plus i don't think BM are known for paying bid fees.

Not sure if it is good business carms,  when you factor in we could sell him next summer for £25m.

Leaving us short at the back could become our seasons downfall.

Oh sure we would definitely be weakening our backline.  I was thinking purely from the financial viewpoint in getting 60m, but i would very much prefer a back three go Sanchez, Toby and Vertonghen with Trippier and Davies wide next season, finishing with 25m in the summer!!

It's funny really. If we were to say the same about say KdB on the City thread, we'd be accused of getting excuses in. Just saying

It might amuse you but considering we don't have 50/60m players as back up the two situations are completely and utterly non related!!  Our back up being a 19yo who's done his knee in.

Blame your owner for that mate. If that is your only back up, then don't sell him. Or at least till you've identified a suitable replacement

Yep blame your owner for keeping his cash under the bed instead of investing it in a side capable of wining trophies!

Guess with Son out in Jakarta you're a man down currently.

Media reporting that anything less than gold at the Asian Games and he faces a compulsory stint of nearly two years' military service - required to enrol by age 28 in the military, for a minimum of 21 months. The final will take place on 1 September. Be very interesting to see what Son will do if Korea  don't win gold.

Why blame the owner....if you can't afford than you can't afford.  Secondly, Toby's contract is running down and we can't afford to just write off millions like others can.

They've forgotten what it was like at Maine Rd carms....when they had to sell x many cups of bovril to keep the floodlights working.

Now they have become cigar waving toffs and loving every minute.

I'm looking forward to their post chav style days when the threads get worn and they can't pay their rent...oh and playing cap in hand at Bolton in the Championship.

Hopefully I'll still have some hair then!

Love the way CERTAIN Spurs fans are always crying poverty when the reality is they are a wealthy club owned by wealthy men who don't want to invest as much as other owners to compete for trophies. Joe Lewis' total wealth is estimated at $US5 billion, and he is listed as the 388th richest person in Forbes' 2018 list of billionaires. In an article last April the Express put Lewis / Levy as the 5th wealthiest owners behind WBA, Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs. Fact is Spurs are happy to spend at a lower amount than City, Liverpool, ManU, Arsenal and Chelsea, and even WHU and Everton who are not as wealthy out spend Spurs. Blame your owners but don't whinge to those of us who support clubs willing to spend to win trophies!

Sell Toby and let Carter-Vickers take his place on the bench.

Its sink or swim time for that lad.

Edit: By sink or swim I mean he will make mistakes but needs to learn quick and work hard when his chance comes.

Oh no we haven't. We remember every single miserable moment of those days. Which is why we are enjoying the now so much.

Your owner is just a tight, last minute wheeler dealer who didn't get the deal this transfer window. He tries to screw everyone down and I reckon agents are fully aware of it and will try to get better deals for their players
