Visa Options for Mother

Featured Replies

My wife's friend is a Mongolian lady who is married to an Australian who works for extended periods of time outside Thailand. Their two children attend a private school in Phuket.

It would seem this lady is now in trouble with the immigration authorities for not being in possession of appropriate visas for herself and the children.

My wife describes the situation as being "urgent" and believes her friend and her children are likely to be deported.

What possible solutions are there ?

I suspect she is having problems because she has been trying to stay on visa exempt entries granted by a bilateral agreement instead of at least getting a tourist visa. The children should not have a problem if they are under the age of 15 because they are not liable for overstay fines.

The children can get ED visas and extensions of stay for attending school. Then their mother can get an extension of stay for being their parent after they get their extensions. She would need 500k baht in a Thai bank for 30 days to apply for the extension.

The children would have to go out for non-ed visas and the mother a non-o visa based upon their's.

Thank you.

I will be meeting with this lady later in the day.

Hopefully armed with your advise we will be able to resolve her difficulties.
