Hi,

This Monday I head to Phnom Penh for a week and wanted to get my non-immigrant B visa. I am a US citizen and have already registered my company (a limited) under the US-Thai Amity Treaty through Sunbelt (they are very good). I went to the Labor Department (I'm in Phuket) and they told me that I don't need a letter from them. My Amity Treaty documents are apparently enough (plus of course photos, my passport, applicaiton...). I called the Thai Consulate in Phnom Penh and he confirmed this is true.

Some questions:

Has anyone had any experience with getting a Non Imm B in Phnom Penh under the Amity Treaty? Is it this simple? Or am I in for a nasty surprise? I doubt if the local agents have much experience with using the Amity Treaty, so I'm assuming I'll have to go into the Consulate.

Also, from reading the forum, it seems PP never gives multiple entry Non Imm Bs....is this still the case? Does it mean that EVERYTIME I want to leave the country I have to go to the immigration office to get an extension? Or can I have it turned into a multiple entry when I'm back in Phuket? If I have a single entry Non Imm B visa, will my work permit also be single entry? or can I have it turned into a multiple entry?

Or do I need a multiple entry Non Imm B to get a multiple entry work permit?

I am a consultant who works all over the region and in Africa for NGOs. I travel extensively and frequently. If I have to go to Phuket town everytime to get extended, then it may be better to wait and go to VTE or somewhere else to get a multiple. And just to confirm, with multiple entry Non Imm B's and multiple entry work permits - I don't need to go to the Immigration office each time before I leave, correct?

Thanks, Corey

Not sure about anything at Phnom Penh. The amity treaty is not mentioned in any requirements to get a non-b visa that I have read.

Work permits are issued valid for 3 months, 6 months or one year. You should be able to get one valid for a year. Work permits have nothing to do with your entries to the country. They are only needed to get your visa and/or one year extensions of stay.

You can get a multiple entry non-b visa in Penang with a work permit that is valid for at least 8 months and company paperwork. It would allow you unlimited 90 day entries for a year.

You could get a one year extension at immigration if your company, your salary and you have 4 Thai employees. Then you could get a multiple re-entry permit.

Ok, thanks. It sounds like what you are saying is that I can come back in with my single entry Non imm B, and, assuming the 4 employees, company regist and my salary check out, I can extend it a year and turn it into a multiple entry, correct? If so, then it still makes sense to do it in PP and not wait for Penang.

Thanks!

You need to get the single non-b to have your work permit issued.

You may still have to get a multiple entry non-b in Penang if you are not able to get the extension of stay. Normally with a new company it is not possible to get an extension until you have one year of tax records but I understand that at some immigration offices there is a way to work around that problem.

You don't turn an extension of stay into a multiple entry. You obtain a work permit which is separate from the extension. A re-entry permit keeps you permit to stay valid when you enter the country.

Phnom Pehn will ONLY issue u a single non b visa, after that they will tell you to go and get an extensions ( i checked with them)

your much better off going to Penang and getting it there,

quicker, no hassle, closer so cheaper to get there

The process is this;

go to Penang, get a single entry NON B visa with your paperwork

come back, apply for and receive your WP

Before ur visa expires go back to Penang and apply for a receive your 1 year non b visa

next year apply for a get ur 1 year extension

You can get the multiple entry visa stamp in Thailand for 3,800 baht if you have the one year Non B.

You will not get any multiple entry visa stamp here.

A multiple re-entry permit can be obtained but you should have a permit to stay that justifies getting it. There wold not be any reason to get one for a 60 day tourist visa entry unless you planned on doing 3 or more entries during that 60 days.

Once you get your 90 day single entry Non B you can then get an internal 1 yr Non B visa with or with out a multiple entry. Single entry stamp 1900 baht multiple entry 3800 baht

Only requirement is 90 day visits to immigration.

My lawyers secretary does that for me!

(I have had a work permit 10 yrs)

I am surprised Sunbelt hasn't informed you more!! biggrin.png

You are mixing up different things.

You are talking about getting a1 year extension of stay, not a visa, and getting a multiple re-entry permit. That is soemehing completely different from a multiple non-B visa.

Extension of stay is 1,900 baht

single reentry is 1,000 baht, multiple re-entry 3,800 baht.

Update: Well, getting the non immigrant b was no problem with the Amity Treaty registration. I went in on a Monday, but they told me I needed a letter from myself inviting myself to come work for me. I gave them that on Tuesday morning and received the visa Thursday afternoon - single entry, but still. So from what I gather from the above - next step is to extension of stay for a year and multiple re-entry - two separate things - before I apply for the work permit. Also have to pay in for 4 thais, get a Tax ID, and maybe a VAT number.

Your next step is to apply for the work permit and have it issued. You will not get an extension of stay without the work permit.

Disregard this.. Clearly incorrect information.. Above poster is talking about re-entry permits on an annual extension.. I assume

As stated, that is the ideal solution but its highly likely you will be unable to get a 12 month extension without a full years tax history and many things a newly formed company simply wont have etc etc..

Its very common to have to get the single, get the WP, then go to get a 1 year multiple entry and pay your fees and costs over the first year, while you visa run every 90 days.. Once you have your tax history, 4 thai employees, office, VAT records and everything that an established company has.. Then you can get your annual incountry extension and stop visa running.

Actually it is correct except for calling visa what is extension of stay.
