Income letter from US Embassy

Featured Replies

My 1 year retirement visa is up in early April. In March I will be applying for a new US passport then when I receive it in late March I will go to CW Immigration and process a new 1 year visa. Since I will be at the consulate in mid-March I was going to get the income letter at that time but not submit it to Immigration until early April when I reapply for my 1 year visa. Since the letter will be a few weeks old will this be a problem?

A income affidavit that is up to 6 months old will be accepted.

This is true...but...like always, depends in officer's knowledge. I asked in Mae Sai weeks ago, and the officer said 3 months.

It will not be a problem in Bangkok at CW Immigration office.

OP is applying at CW so he will not have a problem.

Asking is not the same as using one. The info you get from one officer does not mean it is the rule.

Yes and I was told only one week validity at my local imm. office.

I don't dispute Joe's advice at all but I do think it's also subject to the whim of any particular imm. officer on any given day at whatever office.

The law was changed , I think two years ago.

It is good for six months now.

Just to cover my rear, I have copied the newer regulation from the internet in both English and Thai and bring it with me.

My office, Korat, has no problem with the six month validity.

If it is your first time to get "the letter', a little advice.

You go to "American Services" located in the US Embassy compound to get it. You do not get it from the Embassy itself.

For about a year now, you are required to make an appointment before going to American Services for anything.

It is easy, you do it online.

Make your appointment at least a couple of weeks before you plan to go.

If you wait too long, they may be booked up on the day you want to go.

Making the appointment is actually a good thing.

It has reduced the waiting time considerably.

Perhaps you or they were mixing up a bank letter with a income letter. I have never heard of any offices saying a week even before the it became officially 6 months.

Here is rule in Thai and English. PCEC-NOTICE-THAI-IMMIGRATION-NEWS-JUNE-6.pdf

You can also get the letter at one of the ACS Outreach visits. No appointment needed.

Yes it is located in the Consulate Section on the old U.S. Embassy compound. Consulate has been in that facility for about 35 years now. After you enter you take path to right to ACSU. Outside you go to window to get special queue pass to avoid Consulate visa line. The current Embassy building was built on the old government housing area and is across the street.

Will immigration accept the print out of the bank statement that we show to our embassies 6 months old also, or will they expect the bank statement to be more current, since we have to submit both.? Thanks Ubonjoe

There is no requirement to submit bank statements or any other proof with the income letter.

The are few odd immigration offices that will ask for back up proof to the letter. If they were to ask for it they might ask for something more current.

By the person regularly who deals with retirement extensions of stay applications?

If you just randomly ask someone in the immigrations office about something that he/she does not usually deal with you're going to get a variety of answers.

Just did it and she said good for 6 months.
