Extension of stay based on marriage and overseas contract Dilemna

Featured Replies

I am after some advice here regarding my situation. I am currently on an extension of stay based on marriage which is due for renewal on the 6th March 2015. I do not work in Thailand. I have accepted an overseas contract for initially 4 months starting approximately 1st March pending WP/Visa approval. I can also extend the contract to 12 months if both parties agree at the 4 month point. If I depart before the 6th March I will lose my extension of stay so when I return in 4 months (if I return)I would have to come in on a 30 day stamp or other visa I take it? If I try to renew my extension of stay early I would only get a 30 day stamp "Application of stay is under consideration" so this would not be viable due to time restraint as I would have to report back to immigration 30 days later for final extension stamp. Any suggestions or do I just go through the process again for an O Visa based on marriage.(I am over 50 and a British National) Cheers.

I agree the extension based upon marriage is not an option you have.

You could change to an extension based upon retirement if you can prove 65k baht income or have 800k baht in the bank for 3 months.

Or you could make a trip to Savannakhet and get a multiple entry non-o based upon marriage that would give you 90 day entries for a year. That way you would be able to get a non-o entry you could then extend.

I have over 800k in my Thai bank account but have made withdrawals within the last 3 months but the balance has not gone below 800k so will this be ok to change to an extension based on retirement?

As long as it has not gone below 800k baht it would be accepted. The account has to be in your own name (no joint accounts allowed).

That is good news and thanks for the information.

If I want to change my extension of stay based on marriage to an extension of stay based on retirement how do I do this and what documents would I need to provide at immigration for this please?

I assume it would be one visit only and the extension would stamped the same day?

Cheers.

You would need

1 Application form

2.Passport photo

3 Passport.

4 Usual copies of Passport, visa, most recent extension stamp and departure card.

5. Letter from the bank confirming the 800K together with the bank book. (balance in bok must equal that stated in the letter.

6. Proof of address

7. 1900 Bht !

You will receive the extension on the same day that it is applied for.

May be best to take your wife as immigration may wish to assure themselves she understands the change!

Completed Immigration today and Retirement extension and Re-entry permit was all completed within two hours.

For those that follow the same route don't forget to take your original marriage certificate if changing from marriage to retirement.

Cheers
