French Police Watch as 1000 Illegal Migrants Head for UK

Featured Replies

A fresh flotilla of migrants set off for Britain from northern France, with provisional estimates overnight suggesting up to 1,000 people may have attempted the crossing on one of the busiest Channel days this year.

The move came a day after Prime Minister Andy Burnham said Labour’s approach to illegal migration was “working”, as figures for daily crossings were expected to be published later.

Gendarmes Told People Not To Intervene

Footage and reporting from the Opal Coast near Neufchâtel-Hardelot, south of Calais, described chaotic scenes after a dinghy carrying about 60 migrants, including children, ran aground close to shore.

Some passengers pushed at the boat to get it into deeper water, and fighting broke out as people struggled for space. Videos and witnesses said men pulled each other’s hair, and one person whipped others using a belt. Several migrants were also described as becoming aggressive towards journalists and members of the public.

Reporters said around ten to 12 gendarmes watched from the shallow area without moving into the water to intervene. One officer was recorded saying: “Our order is to let them go”, while another reportedly told those nearby that officers could only warn people that it was dangerous.

Labour ministers have previously said they persuaded French authorities to ease rules to allow officers to seize migrants in the shallows, and the Home Secretary, Shabana Mahmood, has linked further funding to new enforcement tactics. Under a payment-by-results agreement announced for France, UK payments can be withheld if police fail to deliver value.

Crossings Drop But Volume Remains High

The last time the daily number of Channel crossings reached four figures was last October, when 1,075 people crossed. More than 13,007 migrants have reached the UK by small boat this year, down 45% on the same period in 2025, according to official totals cited in reporting.

In addition to Neufchâtel-Hardelot, other attempts were described elsewhere along the coast. At Wimereux, reporters said around 100 migrants arrived at about 05:30 local time to try to board a larger vessel waiting offshore after being taken out by smaller RIBs; roughly 80 then got on board while others, including two women and three children, were forced back to shore.

At Gravelines, reports said about 100 migrants scrambled along the sand to board a dinghy, with French authorities in a rescue lifeboat appearing to hand out life jackets.

Further north, at Berck-sur-Mer, the day’s attempt followed days after a Sudanese man was stabbed to death near Berck-sur-Mer before a separate dinghy carrying a record 165 people sailed for Kent. Prosecutors in France have not confirmed a motive for the stabbing, and a murder investigation continues.

Home Office Response To Claims Of Weak Enforcement

Reacting to a video posted by Conservative shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp, the UK Home Office said it was aware of claims that French law enforcement had failed to prevent crossings.

It said UK-French co-operation had stopped more than 46,000 attempted Channel crossings since the election and that in May 65% of small-boat events were prevented despite higher temperatures. The Home Office added that removals of small boat migrants were at record levels and that asylum claims were down 12%.

It also said almost 70,000 people who were in the UK illegally had been removed or deported, an increase of 41% year-on-year, and that the Government was “going further” to remove incentives drawing migrants to Britain.

The Home Office said a landmark payment-by-results deal has been signed with France to boost enforcement on beaches and target people smugglers.

Post Brexit we have the tools to stop this, we just don't have the political will to use those tools, because we have a leftist government intent on destroying the UK by flooding it with third world

Well, that's not a bad idea, for sure he couldn't do a worse job than the UK government is doing at present.

Right now these illegals, file a claim are given accommodation and everything else, food, clothes, etc and let go into the populous, to cause trouble.

I wish but the Dublin agreement never caused more than a few dozen returnees. The agreement allowed objections to individuals and the french objected to most.

UK government is preparing well for these new arrivals. New diversity barriers have been installed around Trafalgar Square.

I'm just wondering based on latest grand mufti (or was it mayor?) Sadiq Khan statements if they are to protect people from Reform UK? GB News?

I do believe that these are for the threat he never mentions.

30,000 more just entered the pipeline, invading Spain's holding in North Africa. Another couple of months and they'll be in the UK too.

It is quite obvious that the French government policy in this matter is uncivil and wrong. The French don't want to care for the tens of thousands of migrants. However, the UK has to accept responsibility for much of the problem. It still provides generous social benefits and does not actively discourage the migrant flow. Why wouldn't the migrants keep going to the UK? There are literally thousands of activists who are helping migrants on their way without any concern that the authorities will take any action to stop their activity. Stop giving the benefits, instant deportations, the use of water hoses against the boats and a suspension of rescuues would stop the migrant flow quickly.

How are you going to take all the free goodies away from them. They'll go to war to keep it. Too many of them, now. And didn't I see in a poll this last week that Labour has pulled even with Reform? And Reform isn't threatening deportation itself. Only the Restore people are doing that. The UK has an army occupying many of its cities. And UK voters are too scared to do anything about it.

Over a thousand have just swam into Ceuta from Morocco.

Good practice for the Channel swim.

UK Voters can't do anything before an election is called, what do you suggest?

There is no deterrent to stop the illegal asylum seekers coming over the English channel by boats in their Thiusands

The British people will soon realise their Government is not serious about stopping the illegal immigrants arriving when it's to late to do something serious about it 😱

True. The Labour Party is equally as bad as the Conservatives were on this. My memory is long enough to remember just how sh!t the Tories were.

I'm not a legal expert, but allowing them to go despite knowing it's dangerous, isn't that gross negligence? And then... 4 die.

Is that then manslaughter? The UK Government is paying the French Government to allow people to die? To commit manslaughter through gross negligence?

Before we left the Eu we had this problem admittedly on a smaller scale and the Dublin regulation was of no use. Talking of Ireland which is in the Eu seemingly they have the same problem.

An election isn't going to solve anything either. And the indigenous population is under absolute control. The occupiers have mosques that are in effect private armories, while the indigenous are completely unarmed.

No. You make the false assumption that the UK has RULE OF LAW.

Of course it does not. It has tiers of law applicable depending on the color, sex, sexual preference etc etc

If you or I did an illegal boat charter grossly overloading an unseaworthy craft causing 4 to die we would be up on murder charges - and rightfully so.

But these are young military age male muslims, so rule of law is out the window. The UK govt needs as many if these people as they can get. Lord knows why.

They are 6-7% of the population, it's not great for UK indigenous people but it's not as bad as you are implying.

Reform UK has said anybody who has entered illegally will be returned and anybody entering illegally will never be given citizenship as far as I am aware.

Restore goes a lot further and even I feel it's a bridge too far and a pipedream that they are proposing.

There have been barriers in the area for the past 33 years. The barriers recently placed are described as temporary because they are for upcoming events. The yellow barriers in the photo went up in 2017. However, prior to this, there were cement obstacles and no parking restrictions because of previous IRA bombing plots. The ring of steel strategy was effected following the the Baltic Exchange /Commercial Union bombing in 1992 and then the Bishopsgate bombing of 1993. I am not dismissing your concern, but the risk of violence has required by barriers for the past 33 years. The people who were responsible for forcing the installation of the barriers, now get to sit in Parliament and pretend they are good citizens.

It is unfair to blame the conservatives. it wasn't the Conservatives who sabotaged efforts to remove rapists and violent criminals. Events like this were undertaken by members of the public;

Didn't Nigel Farage run Rupert Lowe out of Reform because Lowe wanted deportations and Farage didn't?

Is anybody struck by the historical irony in smug, superior, colonial, ex-slave trading powers who became incredibly rich and did not give a damn about other ethnic groups now being overcome by the world's refuse and rejected?

The Gangs that run these crossings are always 1 step ahead of the Police. They were using rubber boats carrying upto 60 invaders now there using boats holding over 150 on board, mostly young fighting males, the few woman and children that in them are simply stuck in the middle of the boat where there Suffacated. The gang leaders don't care if they die. There many more waiting in the dunes ready to take there place in the next Boat. Tik Tok videos are sent from the Invaders smiling and telling there friends waiting this is how it easy, then they throw the phones overboard. When the Conservatives tried with the deportations to Ruanda the first day Starmer was installed as PM he stopped it. Farage was ridiculed in Parliment for saying we the Government in the UK must halt this activity immediatly or we will be overun with migrants using our NHS and houses meant for locals and worse as he said we will see increased crimes against uk citizens, there not ridiculing him now. If i had my way i would Commandere old Scrapped ferries tow them out into the channel give them the basics till there dealt with. If they need the Royal marines to guard them so be it.

The Spanish border has totally Collapsed it is being reported this morning after the Spanish Government offers Amnesty to migrants with thousands seen running into Spain en-route to England. How would our members on here stop it.

The deimigrunter is missing in action, 1487 invaders in a week nothing from the PM other than it's down on last year and your tax will go up🤔
