Leaving Thailand for good

Old Age and bad planning....................

Simple as that, never met young guy's that are sick of Thailand, unless of course they're broke, (usually the case ).

Never met older Farangs that's are sick of Thailand, unless they're broke. ( which by the time they're moaning, they usually are )

It's not Thailand you hate, it's the mess you made of your life, that's what you hate, and you have to blame something, and of course, you won't blame yourself, so you blame Thailand and Thai people !!

Look in the mirror guys.

Wow such generalizations. You never met a guy who'd rather live in a first world country who wasn't broke? I'd say there's a lot of the opposite. I've read plenty on here who say they can't afford to live in their home country. You said:

"Never met older Farangs that's are sick of Thailand, unless they're broke. ( which by the time they're moaning, they usually are )"

Let me introduce you to one. I get sick of the filth, unsafe food and water, odors, litter, horrible traffic and all that's Thailand after not more than about 3 months and want to get "home." Fortunately I can afford to do what I want to do so I have choices.

After just so long in a third world country I'm more than ready to go home where there's civic pride, no litter, safe food and water, sane drivers and so on. One can have both, you know.

There's nothing fancy in these pictures, but the culture of order and cleanliness and civic pride should be apparent. Notice bottom left of the bottom picture there's a black trash can and others on down the street. There's no litter because people won't tolerate it.

That looks really really really boring. Where are the people? Probably left to go somewhere more exciting. Bet young people can't wait to see the back of it.

Where are you getting this luxurious, fast, fully equipped ambulance?

I watched more than one van go nowhere fast plenty of times in BKK, only to put bodies from the wreckage Of motor bike after motorbike crashes, some covered first with newspapers

Emergency Services

Bangkok Hospital

Motorlance: The motorcycle ambulance is the hospital’s innovative solution to cope with Bangkok’s heavy traffic, whereby a doctor or paramedic is sent by motorcycle to provide medical support to patients in need of immediate care, before the ambulance arrives.

Ambulance: A fleet of 10 ambulances includes Thailand’s only specialised Cardiac Care ambulance.

Mobile CCU, which provides:

special equipment to reduce cardiac pumping load in state of shock, heart failure, severe anginal (chest) pain, and refractory ventricular arrhythmias.

high-energy electrical conversion of life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias. Monitoring heart rate, rhythms, respiration, and oxygen saturation in the blood, systemic and intravascular blood pressure.

electrical stimulation in case of cardiac arrest, or severe bradycardia (slow heart rate).

respiratory support via use of respirator in case of insufficient respiration or respiratory failure.

echocardiography to examine heart muscle function and heart valves. Precise and accurate intravascular access.

specialised physician, and well-trained medical personnel in coronary emergency care and transportation.

special service CDMA network system to facilitate emergency situation. The CDMA links to hospital’s patient record, database system, and consultation. So, while the patient is still in Mobile CCU, the cardiologist at the hospital can arrange for immediate interventional coronary procedure, such as coronary angiography, cardiac catheterization, balloon angioplasty or bypass surgery if indicated.

Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS): Bangkok Hospital Medical Center in association with Bangkok Airways (PG) now offers the first Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) in Thailand. BMC is the flagship hospital in the Bangkok Dusit Medical Services group of hospitals and this new service links the hospitals even closer together, enabling patients to be transported from almost any location in South East Asia to any of the hospitals in the group.

An exceptional description, and may well be available in Bangkok or larger cities, certainly not the norm, especially and particularly in rural Thailand. Where "the norm" is a couple of guys in boiler suits and a converted pickup! By converted, usually (but not always) painted white, has flashing lights on the roof, or a minivan, with the rear seats removed.

I must admit my ambulance experience is limited as I have only lived in Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Pattaya and places in between but close enough to those three population centers to draw on major hospitals. I did this on purpose because I'm old and don't like being far away from a good hospital. I think the same can be said for sophisticated procedures like a Cath Lab only being available in major cities.

I think for most hear attacks you have about an hour to 4 hours. Heart stoppage brain cells begin to die in 4 - 6 minutes. So you take your chances living in a place where they don't have a good hospital.

Let us know the response time on your next emergency

Please ask wife to post, if its the way I have seen and you are unable to post

I already know. In Pattaya and Chiang Mai it took about 10 minutes. I realize you have little experience in Thailand but I'm trying to give you some insight from a person (me) who actually lives in Thailand. Take it or leave it up to you. It all depends where you are. In Colorado it took me two hours as I was skiing. In Baltimore I don't know but I think you get the idea. It depends on where you are and how busy they are.

It sure seems that people like Scarpo already have their minds made up. And if it's about Thailand, it'll be largely negative. And no amount of reasoning or facts will change their minds.

It may take a little longer next time, since recently ambulances are only allowed to drive 80km/h, by ministerial order.

I have traveled and lived in many places , USA, Europe and now thailand. be "international" minded is not for everybody . majority of people, especially the US guys , want stay in their US home. I have heard some US guys saying "I can not stay away more than 2 weeks from my town, after that I become home sick " (the guys came from a shit lost place in the middle of the USA. )

the other thing I have noticed, US people come to Thailand, but when you say something bad about the USA, they are very upset and moderator ban us (USA moderator of course ;)) . if USA is sooooo

much better, take your bag and go home, nobody force you to stay in Thailand . the mafia IRS and the US government is welcoming you back, think all these taxes they will take from your pocket for their little drones used for a good kill ! is that not awesome?you pay anyway on your worldwide income so better to stay in the USA.

so go home dude, just go home and have a happy long life in front of your UHD TV and your big fridge filled with beers and frozen food. maybe some half ton fat Chicks will become your girlfriend or wife . God bless america!

for my part, I don't pay tax on my worldwide income which make my life tax free as I m taxed on residence(no residence = no tax report =no tax = f.... u all! :) ) . for us life is good in thailand but I understand the pain that US people have to go through. I'm so sorry for you that you were born on the wrong side of this planet but you got the government you deserve.

110 million citizens of the USA hold passports. And yet, ....You could fit mainland France, plus Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark and Luxembourg (total about 261,000 square miles) inside of Texas (269,000 square miles) and still have room for a passel of Alps.

http://www.forbes.com/sites/andrewbender/2012/01/30/record-number-of-americans-now-hold-passports/

Don't give me the percent argument. People hold passports not percents. 110 million Americans hold passports how many from the UK? Not percent but people. I know you are trying to make Americans look like untraveled boobs but in reality many more Americans travel than people from other countries.

BTW I made it around the world twice while I was in my teens - how bout you?

Just popped in to see if the thread was any where near the topic. Read the self appointed "VIPinthailand" didn't even have the curtsy to capitalize the T in Thailand. Notice his preoccupation with tax and thought what a sad life to live when the need not to pay it is such a big part of your life.wai.gif

Forgot to mention for all practical purposes I have lived here 8 years and am delighted with it. No intention of moving back. One more thing I can afford to live back in North America it is not a money problem for me. I don't need the services offered in many bars here in Thailand and am a happily married man to a Thai lady.

I would happily return to live in San Francisco or New York City if the cost of living was the same as thailand.

So yes, it's a great place to live, just very expensive!

Interesting things people say about Americans, but when they need our help their hands come right out.

Americans are amongst the most benevolent yo those less fortunate, and there isn't widespread sending of their daughters away to work I'm brothels so the mother's and brothers to drink and gamble

Let me know how many Carnegie and Ford foundations are in Thailand and let's not argue that Carnegie was a Scot.

He could have gone to Thailand to create his fortunes, but he didnt, did he

I have never been in USA (which i'll correct in the future) and i haven't had much contacts with US citizens but i believe, even though i was born, raised and brainwashed in the last socialist bastion Sweden, that it truely is the greatest and important nation ever on this planet. I don't really understand the so "popular" USA bashing...

With that said Thailand is still very high on my list where to permanently park my butt when i'm "old". If i was forced to stay in Sweden for the rest of my life (such as no pension outside Sweden or some other BS they might come up with) then a skydive from the balcony would be a really tempting option.

San Francisco and New York City very expensive - well yeah, so is Paris, Monte Carlo, and a boatload of other international cities. If cost is your sole objective, I suppose a third world country is your best bet.

I live in a very nice area, total cost for rent and utilities is $2400

The exact same cost of the 2 bedroom furnished condo I was renting in Huai Kwang,

The girl I'm with currently, is 5'7 125, and is blonde w green eyes, a native blonde Floridian

If everyone would just accept that we all choose to live according to our personal tastes, this thread could fade away and we can debate the next personal choice topic

34 years already, not going anywhere!!!

Lack of ambition is a terrible thing. I sometimes feel like I'm going nowhere as well.

That was s something that always impressed me about the USA - everyone believed they were going somewhere, they had some dream or ambition - cruel and culpable self-deception, in many cases, but nevertheless a tremendous source of motivation for them...

You're equating being a long-term (lifelong) resident of somewhere with having a lack of ambition??? blink.png
