Rayong:- A 54-year-old Swedish tourist was found dead in his room of a Rayong hotel Thursday afternoon, police said.

Pol Lt Thawat Norsiha, an officer on duty of Muang Rayong police station, said the tourist was identified as Mac Johan who stayed at the Star Plaza Hotel in Tambon Thapradu for seven days.

Thawat was alerted of the death by a hotel staff at 3 pm Thursday. He dispatched police and officials of Sawang Porn Kusol Foundation and Doctor Wiphaporn Laopakdee of the Rayong Provincial Hospital to inspect the scene.

Johan was staying alone at the room No 448 on the fourth floor of the hotel.

Thawat said police did not find any foul play sign in the room. The body was found on the floor with his chin resting on the bed. He was wearing shorts and no shirt. Police found seven empty whisky bottles and many empty beer cans in the room.

The doctor said the man had apparently died 24 hours earlier.

Withoon Boonprasert, 50, a hotel staff, found the body.

Withoon told police that Johan had been staying at the hotel for seven days but he had never gone downstairs for meals and he had not paid his room yet.

On the seventh day of Johan’s stay, Withoon was sent to knock the room’s door but no one answered his knock. So, he used a spare key to open the room to find the body.

Rayong Police chief Pol Maj Gen Chumpol Chanthajamrassilp said police found that the room was also locked with a door chain inside that was apparently done by the tourist himself.

Chumpol said there was no trace of fighting so he might accidentally fall and kill himself.

The tourist’s body was sent for an autopsy at the Police Hospital’s Forensic Medicine Institute in Bangkok.

If that was so how could he do this?

A language thing?

The worker opened the door but it would only open a few inches due to the chain. Maybe fro. There he could see the unresponsive body on the floor, from there he rang the boys in brown.

I don't know but seems simple enough.

The police comments were going OK until he said the above and made a total arse of himself.

RIP

Another dead foreign alcoholic found dead in a hotel room. Happens every day in Thailand. More foreign alcoholics per square mile than anywhere on Earth.

"If that was so how could he do this?" .... I'm no detective, but I'd say he did it before he died, something many people do when staying in a hotel!

Pretty damn cut and dried. This poor man's death could well be just another example of the dangers of excessive alcohol consumption for falang in Thailand (or any other country for that matter). Average of one bottle of whisky a day plus beer. Probably gave himself a heart attach. These stories really jump out at me as I have lost 5 good friends to alcohol over the past 6 years in Pattaya and BKK. As I have got older I am being more cautious, particularly with binge drinking ... I just say no thx lads I'll see you later.

The guy was 54 years old, maybe out of shape, and had drunk 7 (seven!!!!) bottles of Whiskey plus numerous beers.

What exactly is suspicious here?

As I have said many times to mates who have no death wish, why do so many ferlung over here top themselves. Is it that they have been sending money to their one and only ,only to find their one might have more than one. Go to the next bar along the way , find your true love.

Your joking right ? A bar girl for a girlfriend or wife ? Shows some high quality. Would you marry or date a hooker back home ?

i'm sure the hotel will be allowed to search for a credit card to swipe for the costs

do you think they will add on a late check out fee for the last day ? Edited by steven100

Absolute "Conspiracy Theory"! (Come out JD!) Nothing at all to indicate that he "topped himself" - nothing! Nothing at all to indicate that "he had been sending money to his one and only" - nothing!

The only indication is that he appears to have been drinking rather heavily (7 bottles of whisky in 7 days, plus beers) so I would hazard a guess and say "dead drunk".

Might be really surprising to find a dead foreign alcoholic alive in a hotel room.

While I know no more than anyone else reading this article, why does every single unfortunate death generate the same suspicious and negative conspiracy type comments?

The room was locked from the inside, the poor gentleman had consumed a huge amount of alcohol with the autopsy results still to be published, can it not be left at that?

Very sad with condolences to his family and friends,

The answer seems simple enough - Thais want your money and some of them will do almost anything to get it including murder - was this man murdered for a few thousand baht or did he drink himself to death - no body will really know the answer to that except those working at the hotel and those at the scene who reported the incident.

As for the chain on the inside of the door - not that difficult to use a window so it really means nothing to me, why was the room not being serviced on a daily basis, did he really stay in a locked room for 6 days

I am not saying there is anything dodgy going on but as usual the report leaves a lot of questions unanswered

Marry a hooker in your home country? I doubt in hooker in your country would marry you for the simple fact that it would defeat the purpose of being a hooker. Men don't do stupid stuff until they come to Thailand and are bombarded with young, pretty, overly playful girls that make them feel young again. The correct way to approach it is to think of it for what it is... Entertainment. When you start trying to be a knight in shiny armor and save a girl who has lost her morality is where it all goes foul.

Use a window, on the fourth floor? Who do you think killed him, sabai der man?

7 bottles. All consumed in one day? That seems a hell of a lot to me. More convincing might be he consumed that many bottles over a period of time longer than 1 day.

From the original post! I do wish people would read posts and replies before making theirs!
