DPM Somkid to support Thailand's entrepreneurs for competing in global market

Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister Somkid Jatusripitak (สมคิด จาตุศรีพิทักษ์) is geared up to develop Thai entrepreneurs who will compete in the global market. He is also confident that foreign investors will be more interested in investing in Thailand.

He reiterated that the government must help create long-term investment by emphasizing on the qualities and capabilities of Thailand’s entrepreneurs so that they can compete with foreign entrepreneurs.

As for the current recession of the country’s economy, Dr. Somkid said that the situation will carry on for a short period and confirmed that the overall image of the national economy is still positive. He informed that export figures almost reach 4 trillion baht.

He is also confident that over the next ten years, foreign investors will invest more in Thailand rather than Malaysia.

BOI to assist Thai entrepreneurs to fully own businesses

The Board of Investment (BoI) plans to promote half of Thai entrepreneurs to wholly own their businesses within five years.

BoI secretary-general Sathit Charnchaokul (สาธิต ชาญเชาว์กุล) said currently, only one-third of Thai entrepreneurs fully own the businesses. The rest is joint ventures with foreign partners, Mr. Sathit said.

He said BoI will help Thai entrepreneurs become international-level investors by increasing the efficiency of engineers and people in other professions. A special budget of one billion baht will soon be sought from the cabinet for a human resources development programme to be jointly implemented with the National Science and Technology Development Agency, Mr. Sathit said.

He said BoI believes the Thai economy will continue to grow so it still maintains its target to promote investment projects worth 500 billion baht this year.

And what's wrong with that? :D Foreign partners contribute contacts, distribution channels abroad, and of course, investment capital. Those are probably not neccessary any more for Thailand.. Very wise. :o
