Former pop star Gary Glitter sentenced to 16 years in prison

LONDON (AP) — Former pop star Gary Glitter has received a 16-year prison sentence after being convicted of sexually abusing three young girls in the 1970s.

The 70-year-old singer, whose real name is Paul Gadd, showed no response as he was sentenced Friday.

He had been found guilty earlier this month of one count of attempted rape, four counts of indecent assault and one count of sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of 13.

The singer was arrested in October 2012 under Operation Yewtree, the national investigation British police launched in the wake of a child abuse scandal surrounding the late BBC entertainer Jimmy Savile.

Glitter is best known for the hit "Rock & Roll (Part 2)," but he fell into disgrace after being convicted on child abuse charges in Vietnam.

I don't know here,...he deserves a good punishment, sure !!...but 16 years !! ...murderers get less than that....and he didn't kill anyone....

I'm certainly not defending Pedofiles ,...but let's get reasonable...

I know I'm going to get bashed here but I just didn't want to howl with the wolves....

some people got 30 years for robbing a train.

Glitter has become the anti-poster boy for pedophilia in the UK. As such, no matter how long he serves in jail, whether he lives to see daylight again or no matter where he goes he will always be infamous for being a 'nonce' and will have to live with that. Thus is his real sentence until the day he dies. Furthermore, the UK is likely to never let him off the hook even if he got a release day. He will always be under scrutiny whether it's officials or lynch mobs. In a way, he is also doing time for Savile, but I am referring to time as the anti-poster boy for whom there is never going to be any freedom again, one way or another.

Glitter's had his day. He made his bed and no matter what he does or where he is he's already begun to rot in it.

Hopefully he is on the receiving end of some serious discomfort. At his age broken bones and mistreatment can cause no end of problems.

The dirty grub deserves no end of punishment and pain. If there is a god, it will continue after death.

Suffer you slimey prickk, suffer !

I am relieved. It has been annoying to have Glitter out and about because he'd yet to face a proper, recognisable, court. His first offence he did his time for so you had to let that drop (no matter how you feel). The 2nd was committed and tried in Vietnam which must leave us all with doubts to its veracity (if you are being unbiased). He returned to the UK and had his passport removed on the evidence and findings of the Vietnamese police and courts. Again that has problems for me if I am remaining neutral.

This one, however.

GOOD!

I think you are being a little harsh. Maybe he will learn something if he receives a little 'lovin' from his butties in prison.

It is where he belongs

Shame Saville wasn't around to share the same fate.

Agreed! and there are still very prominent figures who are as guilty as Savile. IMO I liken him to be the face of total corruption, but not as clever as those that in power, who were covering up for his gregarious extrovert showmanship,in short he was taking the piss out of his many victims,(Floughting) the fact he had protection from those at the top) his victims which ranged from 6 year olds to 75 year olds, showed the world an insatiable animal!

One thing this whole Shameful episode has taught us all: "trust no one with your children", no sleepovers,no school camps,no school trips to zoos and overnight stays, basically do not let your children out of your site, wherever these people are covering their tracks it matters little to them to! be perpretrater or prosecuter ! and may those who knew he preyed on those that could not protect themselves,be ashamed, and join Glitter/ Gadd, when proven,in a long .....long sentence!

At 70 he is on borrowed time, it's comforting to know he is unlikely to walk out of prison a spritely 86 yearly old! im sure the victims will not have a problem, with that!

He is likely to face further charges as there are still ongoing police investigations. Due to the sentence he received, the police and CPS may decide not to charge or prosecute but to allow the charges to remain on file indefinitely.

Now this is one thread that I really cannot voice my opinion, as I know that if I wrote what I really feel about this baby molesting monster, I would receive a lifetime ban on TVF

Me too, mate. So I'll just repeat ND's words: Suffer you slimey prickk, suffer !

Majic, understand your sentiments, but you can't wrap your kids up in cottonwool.

Agreed 100%, we do have the duty to protect our children but they also need some form of freedom otherwise we will have generations of children who cannot survive when they grow up and enter the real world.

Thongkorn post # 8

some people got 30 years for robbing a train.

Please do not forget that Driver Jack Mills died as a result of the injuries he received in the matter.

Murder is the word.Murder should have been the charge.

Driver Jack Mills is a Railway hero sadly unsung by those who admired his killers..

Glitter got that which he deserved.

His life in prison will in my view be of limited time, and not through sentence remission but mother nature and possibly other inmates although the perverts are segregated away from the other criminal elements, ''accidents do happen.''

Its a true fact regardless who or what you are,WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND and that to us all is a blessing when it occurs in cases like THAT SCUM.ONE LESS TO WORRY ABOUT,Except the tax payer has the payment burden, his money should be taken away and put to a just cause.

I agree with you 100% if you murder a girl after raping her you would get a lesser sentence, hard to understand.
