Members of the National Legislative Assembly have been asked to retroactively terminate relative-employment back to March 1st.

Vice Admiral Taratorn Thinsuwan, a member of the National Legislative Assembly (NLA), has employed his wife and daughter, according to contractual documents. The employment sparked concern because the admiral’s wife has been employed for three separate roles, while his daughter has been employed for one role.

Documents released today show that the vice admiral’s wife earns 59,000 baht each month for her roles. She earns 15,000 baht for being a secretary, and the remaining 44,000 baht is split among specialist positions. His daughter also earns 20,000 baht for her role. The admiral earns 113,000 baht a month.

The released reports show that nearly 70 NLA members have employed family members at the expense of the public. The vice admiral is in the spotlight because he is the only member to employ a family member in three separate roles.

The National Reform Council has stated that there are currently no legal restrictions in place that bar NLA members from employing family members. The council also stated that an ethical decision on the matter needs to be made.

The NLA deputy president, Surachai Liangboonlertchai, has asked members to retroactively end the employment of their relatives. Setting standards for future politicians is the goal of the NLA, states Surachai. Several members have already terminated employment of relatives.

The retroactive termination will go back to March 1st.

Vice Admiral Taratorn Thinsuwan is a well-known figure and commanded the Royal Thai Navy 3. Concerns over public money spent on the employment of relatives of NLA members is a major issue for Thailand as the country tries to bolster its economy. Currently, there are no laws in place that would force Thinsuwan or other members to terminate relative employment. If termination suggestions go unanswered, future measures may be put in place to put an end to relative-employment in the NLA.

Don't forget to factor in all the allowances that are not included in the basic salary and the annual bonuses and the interest-free loans and the free or heavily subsidised accommodation and the obligatory cool season jolly (I suppose since the wife holds 3 positions she could have 2 of her friends come as well) and last but not least free business class, nay first class travel on Thai Airways.

The greed and unethical behaviour of high ranking people here is dreadful, and simply adds to the embarrassment of Thailand.

He's likely a dollar millionaire having held the role of VA in the navy.........

No shame when there's a chance to benefit so fill the boots.

As usual fine words about setting an example, ethics etc but meant for others to comply with.

The PM seems OK with this situation and practice which doesn't do much for his credibility.

ahhhhh yes....thainess being brought to a coup. ..... who wouda thunk it?

Thats why he is vice admiral, the rest only gave their family members one lousy job. Amateurs...

I wonder why he gave his wife only 3 jobs, I would have guessed she would be good enough for 5-10 jobs simultaneously. And he himself only has 1 job? Why can't he be his own adviser, expert, and secretary also? He sometimes scribbles something on a piece of paper right? So thats another 20K at least per month.

Congratulation Costas!clap2.gifthumbsup.gifclap2.gif

Your favorite Government must be a well of wisdom with so much support from housewives and students acting as political analysts and advisors. I just wonder, when will they add their pets like famous owls of Athens and talking parrots to their brain trust.

So....here is a bit more about cronyism not in the red camp.

"The released reports show that nearly 70 NLA members have employed family members at the expense of the public."

That's just ones with the same name -- what about cousins and other relatives with different names?

Just another outstanding example showing the current government....is just the same as the last one, but just somehow better because they are not Thaksin......
