Need some information of water & electricity charge rates in Phuket

Hi,

I am new to this forum and this is my very first post here.

I am moving to Phuket for work soon and have been looking for accommodation options. One of the land load quoted me water consumption charge at THB 35.00 per unit and electricity at THB 6.00 per unit.

I want to know based on your own experience, if the above price is reasonable? I certainly know they are higher than the actual charge.

Thank you in advance for your feedback.

Electricity quote sounds high. Can't help on water, have a well where I am.

Electric charge from PEA varies depending on meter type/transformer feed/amount used. We pay more than 4.42 include tax & surcharges, something like 4.86 Baht. Rental units often factor in extra for communal electric charges such a path/ hall lighting etc.

Water depends on source. We have to truck in water at 100 baht/unit as opposed to Gov water at about 20 baht/unit (depending on how much used) but Gov supply is not available to us in Kata.

My point is that there is really no definate charge for electric and water, many variables.

OP's 6 baht for electric is average charged in a rental unit, 35 baht for water seems a bit high.

Our area charge 20 B. per M3 water and 7 baht/KW. The area have street light, swimming pool and use lot of communal electricity. As indoor also keep in mind that more use of A/C etc. electricity also more service and tear of the units. If you not pay for this service I think 6 baht/KW are OK cheap.

Welcome Maska

We have a 3-bed / 2 bathroom single floor rental house in Kathu. Checking the last few bills:
Electricity is 4.5 Bahts per unit including all taxes
Water is 16.5 Bahts per unit including taxes

What might be of more use to you is to know what an average bill is per month...

Don't worry about the water.... We have 3 people in the house, showers, toilet, washing machine, washing up and the monthly bill averages around 200 Bahts per month (yes per month) - slightly more than the price of 1 pint of beer back home.

Electricity we have: 2 air conditioner units, fridge, TV, laptop, lights, microwave, kettle. The main consumer of electricity is the air-con, which we have on in one room most of the day and all night. Monthly bill averages 1,900 Bahts. I know people who purposely don't use air-con to save on the electric and I've heard 600 Bahts as being a typical bill in this case. Again very low cost relative to back home.

Which area of Phuket do you need to be near for work...?

The main factor for electricity billing is the accuracy of the meter. The cheap meters here would be unlawful in my country.

A charge of 5 or 6 or even 7 bahts in some areas of Phuket will not explain the differnece in billing between houses.

The cousin of my gf here is an electrician. He suggested replacing my electric meter for a better one, one that would turn more slowly, more accurately...

I have rented one BR bungalow, AC almost never used, small fridge, power saver bulbs and a fan always on also a personal sized small pool, 2 persons.

elec rate 7B per unit averaging 300+ units a month for about 2200Baht

water rate 15B averaging 10 units a month for about 150baht

I think its the pool motor that kills me (and my rate is high), it runs 1 hour per day. My bill shows my meter numbers so I do not think I am also paying for the community lighting and larger community pool etc.

electric charges depends on your rental,

short term rental, all included,

long term rental, electric and water by meter,

for hala, street light and big pool electric you will pay maintenance fee, monthly or yearly,

if its not included in the rental price;

hall in Condo will not run on your meter !!

I would not use Illegal slow running meter !!

you could get serious troubles, even criminal record and deportation !! for how much ? 2 beers per month ?

The charges above are for an accommodation in a condo. They may have given a higher rate because there is a pool that everyone can use and the water is being charged for everyone living there. Could this be true?

I think its important to know a bit about the business background to the house / condo / apartments owners. The newest condo`s in town charge electrical government rate when many.... hmm.... of the tribe which own half Thailand charge 6,7,8 baht unit.
