Lite Beer
CDC: Election to take place with 180 days after new charter is in effect BANGKOK, 6 March 2015 (NNT) – The next general election will have to take place within less than six months after the new charter is put into effect, according to the Constitution Drafting Committee. CDC spokesman Kamnoon Sidhisamarn said on Thursday that the new Constitution is expected to include 315 articles. He added that, under the suspending clause of article 308, the general election of members of parliament must take place within 90 days while all senators must be ready to work within 150 days after the related organic law of the new Constitution is in effect.Once the new charter is officially in use, the CDC will have to submit to the legislature within 60 days the organic law related to the elections of MPs and senators before sending it to the Constitutional Court within 30 days to rule whether it is in contradiction with the charter .Mr. Kamnoon said that.Based on these conditions, it is clear that the general elections of MPs and senators will have to be organized within 180 days and 240 days, respectively, after the new Constitution is active. -- NNT 2015-03-
NongKhaiKid
All very well and good unless there's a pressing reason why such elections need to be postponed and ' pressing reasons ' are ten a penny.
HiSoLowSoNoSo
So if the new Constitution is not accepted by the Thai population when will the election take place?
Srikcir
Expect no public referendum on the constitution. NCPO cannot afford the "distraction" that would delay elections and it wants to get as many military elected to office to maintain its shadow grip over the Thai people.
