PM rebuked for punch remark
The Sunday Nation

BANGKOK: -- THE prime minister was criticised yesterday for saying he felt like punching a reporter for asking him a question he disliked. Thai Journalists Association spokesman Manop Tip-Osod said that Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha's remark during his weekly TV programme on Friday night that he "would almost punch the reporter in the face" was unbecoming given his status.

Manop said he understood that the premier was perhaps frustrated with his work, but he still should not have made the comment because it demonstrated his lack of respect for human dignity and was not helpful amid the current mood in the country.

"Thai people and society have given the premier a good amount of time [to do his job]. The premier should now look into himself as a leader," Manop said. BBC Thailand said the remark was symbolic of the intimidation of the press.

In response to the BBC comment, Manop said past Thai leaders had various styles when dealing with the media, but none had used [physical] intimidation.

Yes, he is the coup leader and junta boss, GENERAL, and Prim Minister. Apparently he is also very statesmanlike as well.

He did tell people all polls and remarks must be pro Prime Minister and Junta. In depth questions like, excuse me what time is it will not be tolerated. The reporter should have said something like, you're looking good today Uncle Too and he would have got a nice tummy rub, had his head scratched and his ears gently massaged.

He should do a Yingluck and run off crying.

Or a Thaksin and sue the reporter.

I remember when Yingluck was elected and you moaned that Thailand was becoming North Korea, Jingthing. Now that Thailand has an unelected coup ruling the country, martial law, military tribunals for citizens with no appeal, no constitution, no political rights, no civil liberties, greatly increased prosecution for political speech, among its many repressive features you can't still be going on about what a threat to democracy the Shinawatras are, can you? You can't possibly lack a sense of scale to that degree, right?

He does and throws world record breaking tantrums and hissy fits like a girl. Yingluk is woman and they are prone to cry at certain times. Prayuth is a man and a hardened soldier who is suppose to pull the pins from grenades with his teeth, and eat iron blood sweat and tears. He can't even handle a question and not the sort of guy you would want in the trenches beside you. When the sun went down he would probably poop his pants and run for the hills.

Are the wheels starting to fall off the "Peace and Happiness" express?

Why would anyone be surprised by a remark like this, his actions over the many months have been very much like a schoolyard bully afraid of letting anyone express descent, and giving them "attitude adjustments" if they do. An attitude adjustment is imprisonment for 7 days, and then threatening them with the full force of all the different agencies if they don't agree to "behave" (like having an IRS audit times all the agencies where the IRS audit never ends). Then after telling people not to air their disagreements with the CDC he does exactly that. He seems afraid of anyone disagreeing with him etc. These are the actions of a bully which is now in control of the country.

How incredibly unporfessional. This guy is meant to be running the country. What kind of message does this send out?

Bring peace and happines to the Thai people by punching someone in the face?

Brilliant.

Are the wheels starting to fall off the "Peace and Happiness" express?

No, but it's probably about to derail just like every other train in Thailand

What did the reporter ask?

He'll get his comeuppance, for sure, because he's so thick that one day he's really gonna put his foot in it, and so deeply he that deeply upsets the wrong crowd. It's coming.

What did the reporter ask?

Think it was something like, "Dear Mr. PM. Why are you such a piss-flap?"

Who is your tailor?

The western press has described him as "splenetic". Had to look that up myself as English isn't my first language.

Maybe he thinks a smack in the mouth adjusts attitudes? Maybe he's right?

you're correct they do. Just Googled splenetic prayuth and it comes up, even has his pic. Not just one news agency either.

Most of us can be proud of the defence forces of our home countries, when they go out they make a difference if the cause is right.

The armies of many developing nations are often used as little more than crowd control bullies and who is the former leader of the Army?

Prayuth is supposedly 'a man and a hardened soldier' and 'coup leader and junta boss, GENERAL, and Prime Minister'. He has worn too many hats.

Unfortunately he is not proving to be a statesman which is a pity, because IMO I think he is genuinely trying to do his best for Thailand, but he continually says the wrong things. Professional PR assistance would really make a difference.

ill - humoured? .. But he himself declared himself a funny guy.

Surely, being asked difficult or probing questions is part of the PM job description. If he can't handle that relatively easy task perhaps he should step aside. The vast majority will not object.

I am an english speaker and I would have had to look up "splenetic"..... and I would hazard a guess that the majority of english speakers would (with the exception of maybe those that read a lot of fiction or english majors).
