I seem to be having problems sending emails thrugh my outlook express. I've contacted TOT to ask if they can tell me there incoming & outgoing address (SMTP) for my email account.

Does anyone happen to know as i can't seem to explain it to them properly.

This also depends on what kind of e-mail account you have. I have gmail, hotmail, and accounts on my own domains for my websites, I don't use TOT's smtp server to send e-mails.

Do you have more info?

I've had problems with this from day one. Yahoo will receive, but not send, I've tried all the SMTP settings from TOT, no luck so far!!!!

Is that POP3 Yahoo or normal Yahoo.

How are you connected to the internet and who is your ISP? (I'll assume the ISP is TOT)

Strange ... I have used TOT ADSL over the phoneline, and currently TOT IPStar, and never used their SMTP server, and I do send e-mails. A lot!

Yahoo! Mail users can read their email in Outlook Express by subscribing to the Yahoo! Mail Plus service. This service allows you to use Outlook Express or another POP3 client to access and manage your Yahoo! Mail messages.

If you are a Mail Plus user, then follow the directions outlined below:

Outlook Express allows you to add a new email account to your existing profile. This means you do not have to replace your current settings in order to send and receive Yahoo! Mail messages. Here's how:

1. From the Tools menu, choose "Accounts."

2. Select the "Mail" tab.

3. Click the "Add" button.

4. From the Add menu, click "Mail."

5. In the text box labeled Display Name, type your name and click "Next."

6. In the Email Address box, type your Yahoo! Mail address (be sure to include "@yahoo.com") and click "Next."

7. Under "My incoming mail server is a..." select "POP3."

8. Type "pop.mail.yahoo.com" in the Incoming Mail (POP3, IMAP, or HTTP) Server box.

5. Check the box next to "My Server Requires Authentication."

To control deletion of messages from the Yahoo! Mail Server:

2. Select the "Mail" tab.

3. Double-click the account labeled "pop.mail.yahoo.com."

4. Select the "Advanced" tab.

5. In the Delivery section at the bottom of the window, check "Leave a copy of messages on server" if you want to save your Yahoo! Mail messages on the Yahoo! Mail server as well as on your local computer. Do not check this box if you want your messages to be deleted from the Yahoo! Mail server once you have received them in Outlook Express.

If your ISP blocks port 25 or if you're unable to send email, then you will need to use port 587 when sending via Yahoo!'s SMTP server. To make this change, please follow the directions below:

1. From the "Tools" menu, select "Accounts"

2. Select your Yahoo! POP account and click on the "Properties" button

3. Click on the "Advanced" tab

4. Next to "Outgoing server (SMTP), change port 25 to 587

5. Click "Apply", then click "OK" and "Close"

you might want to check your firewall settings re. port 587.

then it also depends on what e-mailclient you are using (Outlook Express, Thunderbird ...), what firewall, OS, etc. etc.

basically, connecting to a pop3 or smtp server should not have anything to do with your ISP. Unless their firewall is blocking certain ports.

Since it worked yesterday, there must be something else "dodgy", and also since you are not able to send either, tells me that this is another issue.

A little story

from the beginning of my adsl ToT advised me to use smtp5.totonline

Nothing going out last week

gf phoned to tot and due to their perfect service had to call a lot of numbers (by the way try to have somebody speaking a little bit of englisss )

They advised to use smtp.totonline

After 2 or 3 days of sending without problem in thailand and australia,I tried to send email to europ.

No way.I asked to a friend who has a computer /internet company in Belgium to look what happened and...

TOT is considered as a spammer by a server in London ;so blacklisted

This morning,tirak again lost one hour to finally have a guy saying to use smtp5.totonline

I tried to send .Seems to work but my contact is not at his office so not sure

Cherry on the cake,the 2 smiling uneducated in internet technicians from tot ban amphur arrived one hour later .They didn't understand anything.I complained too about the speed so....

they wanted to enter in my wifi router software.NO WAY.After that they suggested I change my contract from 1 mb/s to a 500 kb/s .

by the way, on the Yahoo website it does say that:

so for $20/year you are allowed to read your own e-mail, great innit!?

gmail has been very good to me, blocks 100% of the spam, and I can use any e-mail client (eudora, outlook express, thunderbird) I like, plus I have a huge amount of storage, so almost 2 years of mail history, "safe". Oh yes, they show ads when you access your e-mail on the web. Tough. I hardly ever do anyway, only when I'm "on the road without my laptop".

I also have a personal e-mail address based on a registered domain name, in this case my last name, that's $ 6,95/year to have [email protected] (unless your lastname is google, yahoo, thaivisa or any other of the zillion domains already registered of course)

Feel free to PM me for an invite to gmail, for some silly reason you still can't just subscribe to it, got a few hundred invites laying around here anyway.

Providing you are using TOT ADSL then use "totadsl.th.com" It has worked fine for me.

I just discovered that Yahoo charges for POP3 access if you have a yahoo.com E-mail address but if you have a yahoo.co.uk E-mail address, POP3 is a free option.

I find that sending mail from most Thai based SMTP servers get bounced by some recipients and just swallowed up by others, especially AOL.

Send and recieve via Gmail is by far the easiest method and allows you to move around, use any ISP in any country and it still works. But do set the port numbers carefully.

Here is the best advice: Don't use Thai SMTP servers.

They might work today, but what about tomorrow?

If you rely on having mails sent you should look for one of these alternatives.

1. Gmail, Yahoo, openmail.cc or another free mail service.

2. Paid smtp service like smtp.com

3. Your own SMTP server.

I'm in favor of moving as many of these services out of Thailand as possible, cause they just can't seem to get it right here.

Another thumbs up for Gmail, plus it can be used as either/both PoP3 and IMAP. Also, Gmail hasn't required an invitation to join for a long time now. Just go to their website and sign up.

Has anyone found a solution to the problem of TOT? Like many of you, I use several ISPs (one at home, one at work, etc). It drives me crazy that I always have to change the smtp settings. Has anyone found a way that allows us to use the SAME smtp settings for all locations in Thailand?
