The Technology Crime Suppression Division (TCSD) in Thailand has ordered that more than 500 websites to be blocked or taken offline, as they contain information that violates the country’s lese majeste law.

Many of those websites can still be accessed abroad, as the servers are not closed down if those sites are outside Thai jurisdiction.

Pol Maj Prakrom Varunprabha, an inspector with the TCSD, said they issued orders to shut down 510 web addresses between January 5th and last Tuesday for violating the lese majeste law.

Chaturon calls for lifting of martial law before there is a referendum for the charter draft

16-3-2558-15-42-07-wpcf_728x406.jpg

BANGKOK: -- Former Pheu Thai party leader Chaturon Chaisaeng today called for a referendum to be staged to endorse the Constitution draft but suggested that martial law must be lifted before the referendum.

The veteran politician said that referendum was nothing new but the government must announce in advance whether there would be a referendum to approve the draft so that all parties can have the time to get themselves prepared.

But in order to give full freedom for the people to vote in a referendum, he suggested that the martial must be lifted first .

Besides, he said that there must not be a condition attached that, in case the charter draft has failed to gain popular support in the referendum, the government could pick any previous charters to be promulgated.

Chaturon suggested that the government must make clear which former charters would be chosen or whether a new draft would be crafted all over again in case the draft charter has failed the referendum.

Low-income people urged to register for LPG price discount with the government

BANGKOK, 16 March 2015 (NNT) - The Ministry of Energy is encouraging more people in the low-income bracket to register for the government's project which allows them to buy LPG at a lower than the market price, said Deputy Permanent Secretary for Energy Tawarat Sutabutr.

Mr. Tawarat said the ministry found that the registration had not attracted many people so far because they were confused that the registration would prompt them to pay tax retroactively.

He confirmed that the project was the government’s genuine effort to offset the impact of rising LPG prices on low income earners.

Those who are eligible to buy cheaper LPG include low-income householders, food stall vendors, hawkers and one-floor food shops. Under the program, registered persons can buy LPG at 18.13 baht per kilogram.

Since the program was launched, 80.57 million kilograms of LPG have been sold to eligible persons, worth THB362m. The volume could be divided into 76.75m kilograms used by food stall vendors, accounting for 23% of the eligible persons nationwide. This was followed by 3.82m kilograms sold to low-income households, or just 1% of the entire registered people.

Those wishing to register for the project can call 02-140-7000 or contact a nearby Provincial Energy Office during official working hours.
