Hi

Maybe a stupid question but with Airasia can I take a free luggage in the cabin if I don't have also a big luggage??? So if we are 2 to go, we could have 14 kgs of luggages in the cabin and don't necessary need to pay for a big extra luggage?

Do you know a flight agency that could be cheaper than airasia for going to Kuala Lumpur?

Thanks in advance

Thanks and does it have to be really 7 kgs + 7kgs or just 14 kgs in total if we are two? Do you know if they really check the weight or not?

If your friend doesnt have luggage and you are flying together yes. And the luggage they are talking about is "checked bags" and dont be so cheap, 7kg of bags on such a short flight would be inexpensive anyways

Not sure, but I think that technically you have to be on the same booking - not just traveling together.

15kg of checked luggage is 300 Baht each way if booked in advance.

Thanks for your replies but I think you go away from the question. I am really talking about "cabin" baggage and not "checked" baggage, that means the bags you can take with you in the plane and not the bags you have to leave before at the counter during the registration/check-in.

I will book the ticket together (same order) and we will go together at the counter. I just want to pay the prices of the tickets and absolutely no extra for luggage. We go only for 3 days, so if indeed we can have both a bag of 7 kg without paying extra, that's enough for us. Just need some clothes, stuff for shower and cameras.

By the way, when I tried a simulation, I didn't see 15 kg for 300 baht each way, I saw only from 20 kg at 600 baht each way

Apologies, I quoted the fees for a domestic flight. BKK to KL is indeed 600 Baht/20kg.

There will be no problem sharing the 2 x 7kg allowance if you are both on the same booking reference number.

In all probability they will not check weigh the hand luggage unless it looks obviously overweight.

THAI LION AIR in most cases has fares around 2.000 - 2.200 Baht one way and that includes 15 KG of checked in luggage, so no need to worry or sweat over overweight carry-on. they operate 2 flights a day between DMK and KUL.

their aircraft are brand-new, there is even a private monitor at your seat. those flights between DMK and KUL are operated by Malindo Air, the Malaysian branch of the Lion Air group, but can be booked on both Thai Lion Air as well as Malindo Air page (due to stronger Baht, could be that Malindo page is offering cheaper fares).

As for Air Asia: If you did not book checked-in luggage they are VERY strict when it comes to carry-on, just a reminder

Don't forget the computer bag you can take as well as 7kg carry on. I usually stuff my computer bag with all my electrics, which add up the kilo's.

most budget Airlines don't allow an extra Computer bag in addition to your hand luggage, even though they might accept if you are lucky.

AirAsia is one of the very few budget Airlines who actually specifically mentions on their HP that you CAN bring such a laptop bag in addition to your regular carry-on. Lion Air for example, does not mention anything like that.

Some European budget Airlines that I know clearly state that the weight of a laptop is INCLUDED in your carry-on allowance.

The weight restrictions on cabin baggage also have safety implications. Two 7kg bags falling out of the overhead bins is a different scenario to a 14kg bag landing on someones head. The answer to your question is no, you cannot take a 14kg bag on board.

Thanks for all answer

For "The Fat Controller": firstly you can stay polite. Secondly I always search before asking something and if I ask something, it's because I didn't find clearly the answer or because the answers I found were contradictory. I found this page when googling but nothing is mentioned about the fact if you can benefit of it or not when you don't pay at all for luggages, reason why I asked here. Airasia is a low-cost agency and rules with low-cost agency are sometimes very strange and strict (ryanair for example)

It's actually under 8kg each. If the cabin baggage says 7kg, it just has to weigh under 8kg. So if you both pack 7.9kg each it's fine.

If I don't have luggage to check in at DMK, I like to use the check-in machines just outside the terminal. That machine prints my boarding card and then I enter the building on the left hand side, skirt around the check-in enclosure and baggage security machines (which can all get a bit busy sometimes) and go directly to the immigration counters. So, the only contact I have with AirAsia staff is at the gate. I don't know what happens at KUL but at PNH the cabin bags are weighed and many passengers have to stump up for a last minute check in fee. They seem to allow you to go up to 8.9kg but no higher. As rightly said, you can have another few kios in a laptop rucksack (which they never seem to weigh).
