Dummy police will catch Bangkok traffic offenders red-handed next month

Featured Replies

My question is -

What point does using a plastic policeman to hold the camera serve?

The real policeman can stay in his air-conditioned office playing games on his phone or still have lunch or dinner with his mia noi while on duty.

It is called a camera with some recognition software.

This is a major attack on the income of the BIB, it cannot be bribed or threatened. Although central revenue will love this innovation as the rivers of gold that will flow from these dummies will get their attention.

No it isn't. It is automating the front-end of the traffic ticket gravy train which frees up officers to concentrate on the much more lucrative shake-down and face-to-face 'enforcements' of the laws like casino protection busting.

(Frees up the officers that are not already busy goofing off in the office or eating with their mia nois that is.)

Thailand finally realized that 'dummies' are more capable and motivated than the BIB. Oh, and smarter too! Certainly says a lot about law enforcement in Thailand.

This is funny, instead of telling the officers to do there jobs they waste money on camera's and police dummy's. More time to watch the soaps inside their air conditioned huts.

Not only what you said but also, the first high-so to get a ticket in the mail will most likely hit and run with that dummy. Or burn it to the ground

"The new system can reduce the workload of the police and also promote respect of traffic rules," Adul said.

workload... cheesy.gif

if it's anything like Rayong there will be so many vehicles without number plates that it will be pointless ............

Will it catch mainly motorbikes but also some cars encroaching over the stop line and onto the box junction at traffic lights, particularly when they are turning right and simply want to be at the front instead of queuing.

wai2.gifclap2.gifblink.pngw00t.gif TIT ... the place of innovation.

And how many drivers have NO license or a correct current address? Epic fail I expect . . .

Well in Australia now people are going to court to fight the fine as the defendant has the right to cross examine the plaintiff.

Also, the system used has to prove that it is working properly and so must be maintained on a daily basis ie calibrated.

Plus the time date stamp must be visible on the video.

and the big plus is

ITS a cash cow and once they get a whiff of the money these things will generate then theres no stopping them

they will be popping up like mushrooms

If the dummy fails in it's quota of tickets, will it then be sent to an inactive post?

Let's see if dummies can enforce traffic laws better than the real ones!

How to tell the Dummy from the real police?

"...The new system can reduce the workload of the police..."

Yeah, because the police are already so busy enforcing all the traffic laws...right!

There's only one problem with this system. It assumes the offender, the driver, is the owner of the car. So Thailand doesn't care if the actual driver is ticketed only that they get their pound of flesh (money) from the unwitting owner of the car? Yeah, probably 80% they will get the right driver, but not all the time.

The vehicle owner is the one who knows the driver. So, identify the driver or take over the responsibility for the offence.

Your excuse have been used by transport companies to escape responsibility two generations ago.

Just arrived at work, nearly got run over by 2 red light runs this morning.

No sign of any boys in brown or red light cameras that are mean't to have been be working for 7 years (the cameras I mean)

Just another apparition

Robocop is online...

Meanwhile, back at the police station ...

I know there are some systems like this that are used in some big cities around the world.

But, somehow, I'm doubtful that the locals have the ability to successfully deploy and maintain on an going basis this kind of pretty sophisticated technology, which involves MANY separate, presumably networked installations, throughout a large city like BKK.

After all, these are the same folks who brought you supposed CCTV monitoring cameras that actually were boxes with no cameras installed inside. The same place where anything left out is likely to be stripped down for sale of parts. The folks who crack open unexploded WWII bombs and xray machine radiation containers for scrap, with predictable results. Etc etc etc...

Don't you find it embarrassing that you sit here and criticise all day long, yet when they make an effort ... you sit here and criticise all day long.

If the BIB can enforce the tickets, good for them.

Not at all Johnny, when you read the BS that goes on here everyday, it inspires me to be even more critical.

If it requires maintenance it doesn't have a chance unless they employ foreigners.

I think however a great idea as the police are worthless. Perhaps if it does work out they can fire about 50% of the police force.

How to tell the Dummy from the real police?

Use a rectal thermometer. The real one has a higher temperature.

How to tell the Dummy from the real police?

The dummy will be fitted with a moral compass and a degree of integrity.

Well at least there pay will be correct for a dummy," ZERO" Oh do the dummies have the proper bribe software installed? Could have done same thing cheaper electronic dog collar if officer shuts eyes gets shock if speeder passes shock stays on till stopped. If hand goes out for bribe collars blows up taking head with it.

What a great thing the thai police are doing I like it about time but like always when I read on TV you have the knocks out there who get on here all the time and have a go at what thailand is doing to become a lot better Place to live , if you come to thailand and you are not happy with the place please go back home and stop thai bashing.

Once again Thailand is ahead of the western world in technology, but also behind. In the western world there are speed cameras. This new technology can detect illegal lane changes and parking, and motor cyclists not wearing helmets (not available in the western world) but does not yet detect speeding. Why not wait until the speed camera, and why not add running red lights and failing to give way to pedestrians at a pedestrian crossing as well. Just think of the revenue that will be raised. The only problem being, Thais being Thais, they won't pay the fines and even if their licenses are cancelled they'll still drive anyway. Better develop some robots capable of door knocking and collecting the fines and repossessing cars and bikes until the fines are paid. If this actually works, the Thai government will make a motza and maybe, just maybe Thais will learn to drive more responsibly and safely.

Dummies doing the job. In order not to have any vandals, a security guard will be put next to the dummies to 'protect' him.... and if the security is drunk, he can go ahead and caress the dummy all he wants... he will not get jail like the previous case...

LOL I was just thinking the same thing. It's one of those weird culture differences. Plenty of them in Thailand...

What is good about this is that the cameras will run (or should run) 24/7. There are going to be a lot of very unhappy, bus, van, taxi and BMW type drivers.

.....Corruption-proof too.

You have two month to pay the ticket or the numberplate will be canceled?

I'm see every day people drive car with missing numberplate. they do this for not have the ticket?cheesy.gif cheesy.gif cheesy.gif
