cris4700 Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 I'm on my way into Bangkok next week, about a month earlier than normal for me. It seems hotel rates are margainly higher, quoted in Baht. I would have thought most currencies getting pounded would keep prices steady. Does anyone in the know expect prices to lower once we hit May, or does occupancy and demand justify a 10% jump from last year. Is it just timing? I'm staying for 3 months, so i'd like to work out a special rate with a few regular hotels, but they "favor" price for 30+ nights over the summer is still higher than regular prices I paid last year. Whats everyone shopping hotels out there finding this year?
Aussieroaming Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 I noticed that Agoda prices for a hotel sometimes vary from day to day, I'm not sure why...demand I guess., so the pricing seems cyclic.

Oh yeah, that is very true. Its also a good idea to be keeping an eye on a group of possible hotels to see how they fluctuate and when.
smokie36 Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 What kind of price are you looking to pay? Then perhaps we can suggest a few places.

Thank you, I'm good on where to stay, my comments were more of a an observation that rates seemed higher than last year, but I am a month earlier than normal, hoping rates come down a bit again. Its certainly not a big deal, just curious if people shopping for rooms have noticed the same or if rates usually come down a bit after April.

Rates generally have increased by 20% over the last year or so....no idea why as most of the hotels are exactly the same. I guess occupancy is supporting it.....glad I hardly use them now!
TheAppletons Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 Hotel prices in the international chain hotels where I normally stay in Bangkok have remained relatively flat over the course of the last year. For the OP, what currency is "getting pounded"? Certainly not the Thai baht. The baht has remained one of the few currencies that hasn't significantly depreciated vis-a-vis the USD and has appreciated quite a bit versus the euro, pound, and Australian dollar. Quite the opposite of "getting pounded", I'd say.
konying Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 Officially low season prices start from April , however due to lack of high season, many may not drop the prices in hope to recoup the losses
simon43 Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 I noticed that agoda prices for a hotel sometimes vary from day to day, I'm not sure why That's because the hotel is adjusting its prices, according to demand. I often change my room rates several times each day, systematically reducing the price on empty rooms as midnight approaches.

Quite the opposite of "getting pounded", I'd say. The Baht and Dollar have held , while the Rubel, Yen< Euro + others have lost significant buying power, thus making travel much more expensive. Funny how many stories in late 2014 were commenting on travel down significantly from Russia and a few other places, but now Thai tourism claiming 16p increase.
