Specialist lighting shop (table and floor lamps, ceiling lights etc)

Featured Replies

I'm going to check out Lamptitude today. Have seen the range at Index and Homepro. Index seems overpriced but overall their stuff is nicer.

There are a couple other places...

As you leave the HomePro/Big C - Index area on the highway to Lampang there is a lighting shop on the left just before the Macro... Also continue on the highway out of town and on the left is a huge new Boonthavorn Home Store

Lamptitude was not where Google Maps says it was (No big surprise). Further investigation required

Its on the road from Arcade bus station towards town, about 200 m before the river on the left side.

Another one is on Wua Lai (Silver street) opposite the wedding studio.

The original Lamptitude shop is shown on my map. Look it up in the index on the left - it's about the 5th entry down.

This is the best place as far as I'm concerned although the range of table lamps doesn't look that large. The owner is super helpful, speaks perfect English and talks discounts if you're spending a decent amount of money or working with one of the architects or interior designers with whom he has an arrangement. He can get anything in the Lamptitude catalog with a couple of days notice.

The lighting shop just before Makro is not great. It seems to stock the kind of showy glitz that you might see in a supposedly Hi-So mansion on a daytime soap over here and to be honest I'm surprised they are still in business given the huge and expensive real estate they are occupying.

Personally I prefer the traditional and very contemporary bamboo, teak, mango wood designs they offer at Ban Tawai. infact they are unique you will not find two identical.

Two or three very good shops in the touristy zone 5 area.

For more contemp lamps and acrylic styles there are again two or three on the road leading to the tourist zone.

I would give index and lamptitude a wide berth and consider that as a last resort indulgent waste of money.

Machuda Lighting (the lighting shop before Macro) are offering great discounts. I've had up to 40% off.

They do have some kitsch but also some interesting stuff you can't find anywhere else in Chiang Mai. Would be a shame to see it go.

From what I saw, I'd place Machuda Lighting and Lamptitude at the opposite ends of the taste table. Not to say that one is right and the other wrong, but it's hard to imagine shopping at both stores to furnish one place!

I was looking for Art Deco style items and I found a few at Machuda. Then again I've found suitable items and Homepro and Index as well. I'm sure I can find at least one thing of interest Lamptitude as well.
